Well I spoke to my insurance comp Tescos bank.... and they said we don't allow factory screens to be fitted Shocked So basically what ever auto glass wants to fit they can....... Big Cry

Just been and talked to my mates dad who works for auto glass as a fitter, and he said the screen will be Pilkington ( or how its spelt ) but with out the Landrover markings. The reason they don't use Landrover screens is because they cant be arsed to pick them up from a landrover dealers Laughing He did how ever say that once its fitted if I find any problems at all with it that they will replace the screen and most likey will then fit a proper Landrover one Shocked

So basically I have to put up with what ever auto glass turn up with, will see how it goes and update once its fitted later this week.

Not feeling very happy as now I don't and wont have a like for like screen fitted, and it is not the same as the one coming out markings wise, so if I sell the freelander or trade it in someone might pay less for it Rolling Eyes

Dan

P.s while I was at work the crack got even bigger due to the sun Laughing

Edit: I felt like saying so if I right my freelander 2 off will you turn up with a different make of 4x4 as a replacement then? As its like for like....... Freelander 57 plate XS Blue Auto

The solarflare Windows fitted by Autoglass ain't the same.

The tint is a different colour, the heating elements are different and more visible, the clarity is reduced and they take longer to clear the screen in winter.

When they finally fitted a JLR screen and put them next to each other there was a definite difference.

Sorry to here the insurance won't pay up.

It took two screens before autoglass fitted the proper glasss to mine.

First one had problems with the rear view mirror, second was ok and I was happy with it until winter. The screen took ages to clear and had dead spots so it was replaced with JLR glass and that was when the difference was obvious.

I had mine replaced by JLR and just paid the excess. The various tales of woe as well as possibly questionable quality convinced me it was worth spending the money.

Check for any viewing distortion and keep us informed as to the performance but I suspect nothing will show up until the frosts return at the end of the year. I wonder whether they fit better quality ones in winter when the heating element performance will be immediately obvious........

Had a Solarshield put in mine by autoglass when the original broke and I'd have to say that it appears to perform the same as the last in all respects... Fitted at the end of January this year it ha had snow, frost, rain and sunshine. Heating elements are no more noticeable than the last, defrost wasn't noticeably slow.

I'd have preferred an LR branded screen though.

Sorry i thought they had fitted a solarflare screen but it dosnt have any name onit other than Solar Tint, so not sure if thats the brand? Looks the same as the old screen tbh other than the sun thing is closer to the edge but only by alittle bit. Auto wipers seem to work fine and to so the auto head lights. The mirror seems ok too but time will tell Smile

I dont have a heated screen so winter shouldnt make any diffrence to mine Thumbs Up

That 'FY' logo you have above the writing is the FUYAO trademark. It's a good un. Thumbs Up

My screen is the original one fitted, it is Fuyuo and also has the LR logo, as you say, it's a decent screen

Cheers lads for the info Smile Seem to have had a touch of luck then in them fitting this type Thumbs Up The only other thing that seems odd at the moment is that the LR logo isnt there and the new writing is now on the drivers side where as before it was on the other side

I believe only those fitted by LR have a logo, the pilkington screens are etched to remove the LR logo and a Pilkington cross applied over the top.

Just wondered, if you asked the main dealers to fit you a replacement screen then I assume that would have to say Land Rover on it?? as they always swank about only using genuine parts??
