2008 LR2 i6 SE Auto Rimini Red
Max tire size

Does anybody know what the max tire size is for the LR2?

I'm looking at some goodyear wrangler MT/R for the winter but the closest size I can find to what is in the manuel is 245/70R17.

I'm also looking at the goodyear wrangler silent armor and the closest size i find is 235/75R17.

Anybody know if these will fit the LR2? Also if you have ever used these tires it would be great to know what real life usage is like instead of a review from somebody that takes them for a one hour drive and gives their "professional" opinion. Rolling Eyes

Thanks

I thought the standard size was 235/65/17 - in which case if you go 245 you may need to drop to 60 profile to keep the overall diameter unchanged. 07 Freelander 2 TD4SE Tambora Flame, side steps, privacy glass, mud flaps, boot liner and a tow bar. Ok it's the Wifes but she lets me drive it occasionally - if I've been good!

I thought 245 was the width of the tyre?

It's only if you change the rim diameter you need to change the tyre profile to keep the overall diameter the same?? Neutral

The 70/65/45 etc profile figure is calculated as a percentage of the width - hence a 245/70/17 has a bigger sidewall than a 235/70/17 - 7mm t bigger to be precise (10mmx 70%). That said, 7mm is the difference between a new and old tyre so its minimal in effect, just depends on how tight the clearances are. 07 Freelander 2 TD4SE Tambora Flame, side steps, privacy glass, mud flaps, boot liner and a tow bar. There are sites online where you put in your current tyre size, and new tyre size, and it tells you the difference in rolling size/diameter etc.

I guess if you can get one simillar, and not too much bigger you'd be fine

Also, they seem to make the Goodyear MT/r in 235/65 r17 now (listed on Aus GY site) and they were used on the G4 Freelanders, so it may just be a matter of time before they're available everywhere

Forgot to say, with regards to what they're like, the best advice I can find so far is that most AT tyres will be good on road, not brilliant, but good enough. MT/Rs are usually a bit more of a compromise. Having said that I've read somewhere that the Goodyears are more road biased than the BFGoodrich MTRs.

Also, the goodyear MTR is what LR have fitted to all the G4 models, so dealers can supply them, and may be able to tell you what they are like on the Disco3 compared to road tyres, as an idea for you.

Great, I didn't know they made them in 235/65R17. I currently have 235/60R18 on my LR2, but I really wanted teh Goodyear MT/R's so I don't mind going down a rim size since I will be getting winter rims anyway.

Also the G4 look is what I was going for, so it's good to know I can get them.

Thanks, for the feedback Thumbs Up
