Day Driving LEDs

Hi, I recently noticed that one of my two day lights was out whilst in "Drive" I looked again later to confirm the light was out but it appeared to be on again so presumed I was mistaken.

Only a few days ago again I noticed it was off again! It's only one light and the same both times. Could it just be a loose connection somewhere? I have had the casing out a few months ago to change the halogen headlight bulb, could this be to do with it? Cheers folks!

Sorry if this is obvious, but do you know that the light goes out when the relevant indicator light is flashing? Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone

I believe UK Laws regading DRL's state that they must dim or go off when indicatiing. So that people are more easily able to see the indicator flashing.

Ive never understood why so many manufacturers go to such expensive lengths to design and configure LED DRL when all they had to do was connect the sidelight circuit to a switched live so they are on permanently front and rear. (as in Scandinavian countries)

I see too many cars driving round just with the super bright, styled front LED DRL on at dusk/evening time, but nothing on the rear making them difficult to see. Too much driver reliance on so called 'driver aids' and not enough reliance on their own eyes and brain to tell them when to switch on. Twisted Evil

I have made this mistake myself when driving various LR's back from a main dealer after a service as they always turn of the auto lights! As the instrument panel is always illuminated it makes it harder for one to notice if there lights are on unless you look out for the side light symbol. The older LR's were better in the sense that the instrument panel would only illuminate when the side lights were turned on MY14 Kahn Converted Dynamic - Fuji White Ebony/Pimento Interior

Thats what my dash is as its a 2008 model. I leave my lights on auto most of time but I like to be seen from front and back so quite often override the auto function at dusk or dawn.

I saw a FFRR the other night driving the A614 through Sherwood Forest with only DRL's on. Black RR + no rear lights at night = disaster waiting to happen.

Having said that it did look good from the front Laughing

Thanks for that! At least now I know! Also, where is the sensor for;

A; The Autoheadlights and

B; the automatic windscreen wipers?

My lights were set to auto a few days back and on in BRIGHT sunshine Mad

The wiper sensor is in the unit by the rear view mirror
The light sensor is the little dome on the dashboard in the centre (at least it is on my MY2008 GS)

The light sensor tends to get a little confused in bright sunlight so can switch on/off when least expected. I just take mine off auto if its doing this and I dont need them on.
Likewise the rain sensor can get confused due to condensation/moisture in the early morning, or by general road grease/flies on the windscreen.

I think, could be wrong Thud that both the lights and wipers sensors are in behind the rear view mirror visible from outside the screen. The dome object on the dash is part of the smart-key system! MY15

... and now for the correct version Whistle

the light and rain sensor are indeed behind the mirror, but the domed thingy in the middle/top of dash is the sunload sensor and has a bearing on the Aircon/blower unit for cooling the cabin. Smile

By the way, I know its a stretch and can get missed but give the glass in front of the light/rain sensors a good clean and by removing road film it does make a difference. Thumbs Up
