Anyone hear of this ?

Don't know what made me think of it, but when I took early retirement in 2012 the company I worked for had a large contract to help provide public transport for the Olympic games. I was privvy to a lot of what was gong on with logistics and security and heard this story a couple times but never found out if it was true or not Question

It was, that LR were sponsoring the equestrian events to some degree on BlackHeath. There was a rather large / posh house that had a fantastic landscaped garden and LR approached the owner to crane over a new top of the range Range Rover for Photo shoots and other PR purposes for the duration of the games. It was lifted over the house as there was no rear access for cars.

The story goes that during negotiations the LR people offered the deal that when they were done he could keep the car as payment and it was down to him to have it craned out of the garden.

Anyone know if it's true or not Question

Ian.

Seems a bit iffy. Was the landscapers truck craned in and out when building the garden? Everyone can spread it - Anyone can catch it. Stay home - the life you save can be your own!

Anything is possible down here, the guy at the end of my road had a Hot Tub lifted over the house and dropped in the garden Shocked

And then there all the people excavating double story basements under their houses to get extra rooms Rolling Eyes

I never heard anything like that.

I was down driving buses from athletes village to various events, absolutely loved it, once in a lifetime experience. Done the para Olympics also. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

There are lots of rather posh houses in Blackheath. I worked the Olympics in Greenwich, (not as an athlete) and never heard that rumour.

The cost of two crane lifts is, in the grand scheme of things, insignificant. Particularly against the value of a shiny new RR of any variety.

Seems very unlikely that LR would give away a car just to save a grand or two on craneage.

Land Rover do actually give quite a few vehicles away for nothing.
My wife's work receives loads of free Land Rovers, models of various types, but mostly Defenders.
She works in transport for the British Red Cross.

Good on you Land Rover. Thumbs Up FL2 now gone and have a couple of items left for sale:-

Brodit active iPhone holder + Brodit dash clip,
Bluetooth Music Streaming Module.
