Australia 2015 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Auto Aintree Green

That is a very good point and the one thing Porsche have had over LR is steady ownership!!
Freelander - always marketed at niche market! Compare Past discovery literature to Freelander! Any family shots in Freelander literature ????? No!
I hope LR has developed a long term strategy, which won't be apparent to us atm but will unfold over the coming years!
Fingers crossed!

England 2010 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Auto Galway Green

Well it is certainly true that it is all about worldwide sales nowadays. I was researching a BMW Z4 recently and found out that the reason you can get £8,500 off list price in the UK without even asking is because Chinese buyers don't want Roadsters because the air quality / pollution in China is so bad and that open top cars in China are too vulnerable to crime ! With no Freelander 3 on the horizon, I really do hope that the Defender will continue in the future but I realise that the fact that it has many enthusiasts in the UK is irrelevant and unless it can appeal to emerging economy drivers it will never happen ! FL2 HSE Auto Galway Green

I really do not understand why LR have 'thrown out the baby with the bathwater' and done away with the Freelander !
I'm sure I read that there is a slightly bigger / longer evoke type car on the way which would sit between the DS and Ewok.... I may have imagined it but if not surly thats closer to the FL2 spec ?

really?

Whilst I appreciate the need for all significant car manufacturers to look for global market share, it still strikes me as very odd to build cars in the UK and yet appear to largely abandon a large part of the home market (Freelander2 & Defender).

Perhaps they are preparing for life after the threatened EU referendum in 2017, when continuing to be based in the UK might seem rather pointless!? Let's hope not! Rolling Eyes Life is not a dress rehearsal!

The Discovery brand name has always been synonymous with the family markets a market which now sits In the Freelanders (outgoing) size so it makes sense to Market this as "Discovery" as the D4 market is shrinking, not where Family/volume sales will be!
Remember, the Freelander was released in 2006 primary answering the market in the USA demands. Times/market has changed.
I doubt any model between Evoke and DS especially until DS establish's itself!
My guess would be smaller models available and possibly one with the Freelander badge but not in the short term!
Again, have a look at some other marques and this will give you a clue.
If LR are to be a singular nameplate then they must expand their model lineup into all segments of the market as BMW, Mercedes have done but have had a 10 year head start!
Jaguar is also going down this path with their model offer!

The money saved will go towards the price of AdBlue Laughing

Looks like the only 5 seater will be the E-capability 150 TD4, and it comes with a blue badge to show just how Eco it is Rolling Eyes
All this hype for 57mpg, my old engine can hit 51mpg.

Not sure why an HSE customer can't get a 5 seater. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

Nice! Quicker than expected.

Although, think I'd be a bit peeved if I'd bought one already and they announce this so soon after it's been launched. FL2 2011 SD4 XS in Galway Green

Ukraine 2013 Freelander 2 2.0T SE Auto Fuji White

'Discovery Sport is also available with a four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine'

It says nothing new, so in other words it is the 2.0L 177 kW Ford Ecoboost. Very nice engine.

Had the car loaded up with 600 kg today with driver. 100 kg over spec but I was careful driving the car avoiding Sydney's potholes. The engine barely noticed the extra weight & drove nicely. Very impressive.

The only improvement would be a 2.3L 231 kW Ford Ecoboost. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Saw a Disco sporty today - very nice looking car. Will probably head into a dealers this week for a closer look

Will wait until the surround camera package becomes available before ordering...that might come with the new engine?
