Fitted Sun Shades

Hi,

Not posted for a while, but happy Freelander owner again.

I realise that there are past posts regarding fitted sunshades but the information is quite vague about the quality and how they actually look, compared to say retro-fit privacy glass.

Has anyone actually purchased any of these and were they happy with them. I've found this company on the net - http://www.uvcarshades.co.uk/shades-c-2729.html

Any assistance / guidance / recommendations please

Many thanks

Neil

Hi Neil
I have never seen those before, I would also be interested to hear more, my new car hasn't got privacy glass and the temperature increase is noticeable.

They may be very useful if they look good too.

Paul

£64.80 for a set of 6 for the FL2 ...... that's not bad.

Wonder how they'd look along with privacy glass?

A similar look to the sunroof screens Thumbs Up

The only drawback, if it is a drawback, is that the rear screen is two piece so you get a thick centre line.

Just imagine the thick centre line as a scooby spoiler Laughing

I would pay the extra and get tints Paul. Suntrek films are excellent quality and very tough to break through. I have also got they're clear security film on the fronts. Take a hammer to privacy glass and it will shatter easily on the first attempt! Try it with tints and it will bounce back Wink it will eventually break but does not shatter and it will take repeated heavy blows to cave the whole window in. I have posed a thread a while back on here about privacy glass. All privacy glass is clear glass dyed black! It doesn't not block any uv rays or block the build up of heat as an actual window tint would. I have heard some people harping on about how on the rear window the heating elements are more visible with tints and that you have a halo outline effect around the edges of the glass. Tbh I don't think it's no where near as bad as people make out to be and it seems to be scaremongering. I have limo tints on mine and you cannot really see the heating element lines once a few car lengths back. I have been behind cars with dyed glass and I can see the heating element lines. Also in strong sunlight the rear screen on dyed glass is not privacy Laughing MY14 Kahn Converted Dynamic - Fuji White Ebony/Pimento Interior

I quite like this idea, the daughter doesn't like tints so these can be removed and just left on the rears. I don't think the centre line will be an issue, I have a dog guard fitted Laughing

I had a full set for my antara that I had before my fl2. It already had factory privacy whuch was quite dark and the shades made it almost impossible to see in. Could open the rear windows and the shades stayed in place still providing some privacy.

a good alternative to privacy or tinting imo Thumbs Up

We had all the windows replaced in our block or Units years ago & paid for our Unit a considerable extra amount, about $2000 to upgrade to laminated glass. We did it for 2 reasons. For extra security, but mainly to block UV.

As LR NUT mentions, glass, whether it is tinted or not does not stop UV from passing through. You need to put a film on the glass which reduces UV & or infra red spectrum if you want to reduce heat as well, or use sun shades to reduce the risk of melanoma skin cancer.

Statistics in Australia, on average people have slightly more skin cancers on the right arm than the left. Also found peoples faces have aged a bit more on the right hand side, due to the large number of road trips due to single occupancy cars.

People at the high risk end of getting melanomas, i.e. fair skin, red hair etc should seriously think about actual UV window protection rather than privacy glass.

Lastly while on the subject of UV. All solariums have been banned in Australia. They are NO safer than the sun. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

There's an informative article on UV and glass here: http://www.theglobeandmail.com/globe-drive...3/#Scene_1
Generally speaking, glass protects against most UVB, but not UVA. Laminated glass also blocks most UVA. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone
