Unexplained extra LED side light within rear LED cluster!

Does anybody else have 'extra illumination' on the left nearside tail light of their Freelander. I have noticed an extra red side light when the lights are switched on that doesn't appear on the drivers side light cluster. It is located where the cluster goes round to the side of the car and at the base where there are 3 black circles/dots within the red reflector.
I cannot see what purpose this extra light serves as it is on the wrong side to be a parking light or anything else!
Anyone else noticed this on their car?

Thanks

I would say that your left light is American spec as that is the side marker that are required there Thumbs Up

Thanks!
I took my car back to the dealer to have the other side replaced as I thought that there was a defective LED/bulb!
They replaced the whole unit (car purchased at only a few Months old & under LR warranty) but it didn't rectify the problem.
When they looked into why the right side light wasn't working, they searched through their workshop repair manuals etc. and told me that there was no LED/bulb in that part of the unit. They couldn't explain the reason for the light on the other side though!
I will pursue this now and hopefully get it changed.

Thanks again! Very Happy

Both sides of mine light up - seems your dealer should be looking for a n/s cluster with rather than an o/s unit without the 'side' light.

Rolling with laughter the plot thickens!

I can assure all that they are not a regular UK fitment

On my Discos they have always had the holders in all lamps but bulbs are only fitted where the region requires.

To match them the bulb could be removed for normal service Thumbs Up SD4 HSE Lux

You have fitted NAS spec lights Laughing as Dave has correctly stated.

If you look at the video below you will notice that the front headlights have an amber reflector which is illuminated and acts as front maker lights as the rears do! In the UK we have either a clear reflector or later cars MY15 have a blacked out headlight reflector with no bulb. The rear lamps are identical minus the bulb.

This is indeed interesting! At the end of the day I guess that the dealer will fit what they see as appropriate. I have only just purchased the car and it was supplied under the approved LR scheme and has a full Land Rover warranty. I probably won't be given a choice!

The easy thing to do would be to get your dealer (or another one with late cars on their forecourt) to show you the (lit) lights on their cars.

Any number of users on here with factory fit led rears should be able to confirm whether or not the 'side' markers are standard in the UK.

Don't most UK cars have 'wrap-around' rear lights?

Is that (NAS spec) going to be a problem at MoT time? If so I will disable the side markers.

On the Powerful UK site they make reference in the text to NAS spec being different to EU/UK and to contact them first if NAS spec is required yet in their fitting video they specifically point out the side markers...

I guess that as long as they are a matching pair of rear lights present then they will pass an MOT. My thoughts currently are that mine would fail the MOT test. If I was followed by the police at night anytime I could get stopped for having what appears to be a defective tail/side light on one side, rather than having too many on the other!
I have now also checked the labels/codes stamped into the black plastic flanges hidden by the tailgate door when closed. The cluster with the extra light is the odd one out having an SAE code number. The driver's side cluster has a European E4 (Holland) code - as do both headlight assemblies. Think this will swing it now as a wrong fit...

I can't see that being an MOT issue. If so, every run-out Jaguar X-Type(2009) would be failing its MOT owing to Orange Markers built in to the bumpers. Foraging near Gaydon....

My mums RRS has the front marker lights. As Badger has stated I don't also think this will be an MOT issue
