Wrong tyre fitted, should I complain.

So.

This morning I get a puncture, screw in sidewall of my conti cross contact uhp. Take to bathwick tyres in Tetbury as away from home. They say they have the same tyre so pay them £166 to replace. Car comes out with a conti ecocontact 5 on, completely different tread and not m and s. I say change it But it turns out they don't have the correct tyre even though my receipt says "conti cr contact uhp".

They refuse to take the tyre off. Telling me you can safely mix continentals as long as you don't mix budget tyres, lies after lies.

Eventually get them to put my spare on as it is a cross contact.

Now my spare has the ecocontact 5 on still which is annoying. They won't change it.

I hate companies like this. Why can't people do a good job?. Is it worth it complaining?.

You quite clearly didn't get what you asked for. Get your money back. Pay by credit card? Take it up with them.

Absolutely, you paid for something and they didn't give it to you. Nothing to lose.

Get it changed, it is NOT what you asked for, as mentioned, if it was credit card tell them the issue and that you will withhold payment to them.
Failing that complain to local trading standards, they may take it up.

Thanks for replies. I paid with visa unfortunately.
And as I'm on route back to kent I will need to sort it from there, might be complicated as they do not have any garages in the south east.

Still have rights as you paid with VISA even though it's a debit card

I had the same thing, ordered a tyre for the wife's car, went and they fitted it and after I noticed it was different, it turned out that it was a new model and better performing tyre, but this was not meant to be used with the different tyre, as the improved performance could give more grip on one side

The lad in charge said he would do the right thing and order me a second tyre FOC, the following day his manager rang to say that wasn't going to happen so I went above his head and got the area manager involved who agreed with me and a day later the other non punctured tyre was replaced like for like with the new model, also saved them disposal cost as I took the old tyres home

Moral of that is stick to your guns and hound them till you get what you want Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

wurzel153: How dare they not inform you that they didnt have the tyre you wanted before installing an alternative. Its outrageous that they then attempted to con you by refusing to remove the tyre.

npinks : Moral of that is .... Dont go anywhere near those shysters !

I know several people who have been ripped off by various tyre companies over the years - I wont have anything to do with them . I used to use a specialist tyre chap - did only farm vehicles, and 4x4 etc . He's retired now so I get all my tyres from Event - brilliant service. Jules

Park across their entrance whilst you negotiate with them? Wink

Seriously, though, they're in breach of contract and need to put it right...probably an idea to tell card issuer that (did you mean it's Visa Debit card?.....Visa credit card for goods or services between £100 and £30000 makes them jointly and severally liable so you'd get more help).

If it's a Debit card then this may help?....

They have conned you so even if it is a pain I would make every effort to get your money back, get the actual tyre you are looking for locally and tell this crew they can organise a courier to uplift they're part worn incorrect tyre if they want.

I spoke with the head office. I am pretty sure they will resolve this. They said they will call me back after speaking to the branch in Tetbury.

I will update after tuesday as everyone is off work now.

I think even with a debit card you can get chargeback on the payment. There's quite a lot online about chargeback. I hope you get the tyre sorted. Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.
