Clocked Mileage

Hi Guys, I'm thinking of acquiring a 2009 FL2 and was wondering about the possible clocking of mileage. Is it possible to trace whether the odometer has been tampered through a diagnostic check?

The mileage is stored in 6 ECU's. I can say 7, but for the seventh you should make some calculations.
If someone wants to tamper with the mileage, one should modify it on all ECUs, as when the car is started, the biggest of all 6 is taken as the real one.

So this can be checked via a diagnosis? Series 2a 88 - 1962

if its done by someone who specialises in "mileage correction" work, which there are many out there, and spend time on forecourts just as much as driveways, you will not be able to detect it. They correct all ecu info to prevent detection and mileage rebouncing back after tweeking it

check all previous mots via vosa, and look for a car with a regular main dealer service history and ideally one owner to limit the chances of buying a clocked car

look for usual wear and tear that ties in with mileage, or replaced items to hide wear and ring the previous owner and ask what the mileage was upon sale

hope you find a good example, theres plenty out there just take your time - FL2 3.2 i6 - There is no Replacement for Displacement

If my wife ever sells my stuff for what I told her I paid for it, there will be some bargains out there!

Depends on what you understand by diagnosis...
A normal, dealer like, diagnosis, no.
A specific diagnosis, where you look for a certain information, in certain places, maybe.
Like the previous poster said, better check for usual wear and tear and limit the range of cars to ones that you can be sure that are 'clean'.
