They won't work.....well when I say wont work, you will be seen but the light output will be so dismal you will not see much.
Why do you want to do this? HID look? or some sort of DRL, LED may work in the foglight if that is what you are after.

Chris,

I guess this is the kind of thing you mean:-

http://www.buyandfun.com/en/2-car-h4-120-s...p6931.html

Like you I wonder if they work but Taz seems to think the light output is poor. My interest in them is all about life expectancy and low power drain rather than any cosmetic thing. I am almost tempted to get some and do a comparison.

I have LEDs in my rear number plate lights and I have to say they do the business. You can also get them to fit the high level brake light. John

LEDs that do not sit at the focal point will have little effect, the reflector or projector lens needs a point light source to be effective.

Yeah....thinking about it you are right. This used to be a problem with some cheap bulbs where the filament was not ideally placed.

So...moving on, what about cars/bikes that have LED headlights (e.g. the new Panigale) what are they using? John

Standard H7 55w lamp is about 1500 lumens, it is quite easy to achieve this and more with led, as long as the construction of the reflector/lens is optimal you will get a decent light output.

The Range Rover mule has a fancy looking led front lamp, this could well be a DRL or led high beam, I will try and find the pics I saw.

LED Headlight replacement bulb

Wonder if the technology has reached the possibility of consideration now?
I see plenty of LED Headlight bulbs for sale, so has anyone fitted them recently for main beams?

My brother in law (farmer) bought an ex army Landrover some years ago and it still had its Infra Red headlights fitted. Unfortunately he didn't have the night vision goggles to go with it so not very useful and also a bit dangerous to drive in the dark. Rolling Eyes
ps it also had a machine gun mount in the back which the dogs didn't like. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Just to get this thread going again.

Some of the new bulbs using the Philips Luxeon chip are able to get very close to the dimension and placement of the incandescent filament. This gets away from the original problem of lots of light but not in the right places.

The sort of thing I'm thinking of are these
https://www.auto-lighting.co.uk/product-en...Lumen.html

Fitting these would be easy if the bulbs were held in by those bent wire spring clip arrangements, but on mine 2010 model year the bulbs are held in by the power connection plug. So it needs some sort of adapter. Any ideas folks?

Hi Fitted LED bulbs using these things they slot in to hold bulbs like wire clips available on ebay same as Ford Mondeo. Use bulbs with what look like tail feathers to keep them cool got mine from Amazon they give amazing light..
Sorry don't know how to post link...
See image in my gallery hope this helps.
