Thanks for the quick reply. I read somewhere that the start stop stuff has different requirements. May not be the case though! FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - so many issues

StevieStapes of this parish had issues with his AGM battery - might be worth pm'ing him as I think he might have managed to 'recondition' to an acceptable level. |

You MUST fit an AGM battery. They are more expensive than normal batteries but the start-stop equipped car requires one. I can't see from a quick look at the page whether the battery you mention is AGM. If you search around there is a lot of info on this on the forum.

Here's an 80ah/800 AGM for about £150. AGM BATTERY. Quite a bit less expensive than your main stealer quote - you will have to self fit though which is the work of but a few minutes.

As previous replies have said, it has to be an AGM battery (not standard lead/acid battery) due to the higher power consumption of the stop/start coupled with everything else electrical.

Just a thought but FL1's were prone to locking all of the doors when the battery was changed which can be a bit embarrassing if the keys are inside. I don't know if it's the case with FL2's but be wary of leaving the keys inside. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Both the FL1's I had used to drop the tail door glass on battery re-connection. Both were V6 se's and both had head gasket failure in my ownership. the 1st one at 30K and the 2nd one at 68K which lead to it being replaced by the FL2.

I had an X reg FL1 to start with 1.8 petrol. This blew the head gasket and suffered from funny tyre wear on the rear tyres and made them very noisy. The TD4 FL1s were reengineered extensively when BMW took over and also had new electrics, they fixed the rear diff ratio problem so that tyre wear was normal and I ran two TD4s (one was auto) each for about 90k miles with no problems at all. It's a pity that BMW weren't involved when the FL2 was designed as I feel we are suffering from a Ford cheap/poor design philosophy
