I have noticed recently that I have bumped my head a few times on my open tailgate! Initially I put it down to swapping my wheels and the car maybe sitting a fraction lower now.....or the recent cold weather in the mornings affecting the gas pressure in the stay Rams/struts.....but today it is 11 degrees in the sunny Midlands and I bumped my head again!

Once it's open you can open it further by around 3 inches by lifting it


So I think I need to replace the gas Rams/struts on the tailgate.......not a big issue at all but just wondered if anybody else has had to change theirs before Black FL2

I have had similar experience over the recent cold snap, as have one or two on here. I wiped the struts down with a little silicone spray on an old rag, and they have been fine ever since. Give it a whirl Foraging near Gaydon....

I think it has abearing on the temperature, mine is slow in opening and I have an annoying 'groan' from the left hand one.

I got a pair from SGS in 2012 for my previous car. It was cheaper & quicker than ordering them in Australia, even with freight, & they were here in a week, maybe even a touch quicker.

One side had gone on the car, but it is best to replace in pairs.

With the new struts I then realised how bad the old struts were. Wish I had done it much sooner to prevent banging my head on the boot & stop the sore arm from lifting it! Very happy with the struts for the remaining 2 years of the car. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

I also used SGS earlier this year for tailgate struts. No problems since fitting them, and about half the price of genuine ones.
They seem to have a large stock of struts, and most will fit more than one vehicle. Once they had the serial number, the correct bare struts were collected off the shelf, then the appropriate fittings are screwed on, so they will fit you're car.
