Only just read this thread. Don't forget that the Freelander is 1.8 tonnes and thus uses a fair bit of fuel to get it going. But on the other hand it is worth it. Actually the other day some di-- He-- in a merc was trying to overtake on the inside lane from a set of lights. Fixed him with the Freelander. Very impressive. Nice to drive a real car!

Totally agree about a warranty. I've had a new inlet manifold, 1 injector and return pipes, new glow plugs and a cam position sensor so far. all covered by the LR approved used scheme.

It's about time that LR moved to a 5 yr 100k warranty as standard like Toyota and some other marques. However the bigger issue is that although we have warranties on our current FL2's it still means that you have the hassle of getting the car to the dealers to get them fixed. I am retired so have the time to drive 35 miles each way to the nearest dealer and then go a few days later to pick it up. These cars have been off the road a lot more than anything I have ever had when I was working and doing a much higher mileage. |

These 5 year or 100K warranties are not all they are cracked up to be, lots of restrictions, so mostly 3yr 60K plus engine drive train, but you still may have to argue, LR do the, as they say contribution towards failures outside warranty, but depending on the failure you could still push the dealer under SOG . The warranty doesn't really matter, unless the car is over 5 years old with a bundle of miles. I think you will find that most of the failures are on this forum, so really fairly low, most 4x4 will have above average failures due to the more complicated drive train and vehicle weight, also the way some drive them and the terrain. my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

So far, and each time I have had LR assist out to non starts (3 times) I have had a loan car delivered. Had an Ewok, a Disco4 and a Nissan Pathfinder. all have been new (64 reg) and when the car was repaired it was delivered back to me. I have no complaints about the warranty scheme. I do wonder about some of the "master technicians" though? being a retired fully qualified, dealer trained one myself. Who remembers Rootes Group, that's who I did my apprenticeship with

One wonders how some manufacturers would look at a warranty claim on a vehicle turning up with big knobbly tyres and a snorkel as LR do my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis
