Calling all animal lovers

Please read this and donate if you can: http://www.derbytelegraph.co.uk/Derby-anim...story.html

I donated this afternoon and the paper put me through to the vets themselves where they took the card payment over the phone. I hope the money is raised Thumbs Up LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

Horrible thing to happen, especially with £4500 of vet fees, but things like this happen everyday what makes this dog so special for strangers to help pay the owners vet bill? Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Uninsured and this seems a rather large bill indeed. Just tried the local rags to see if anyone would help and the witness said it was horrific. LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

Unfortunately pet ownership and vet bills cost have increased due to insurance claims culture and most been insured

End of the day, the dog's fixed now. What they going to do if they don't get the money? Break the legs again? Confused

I have never been in this senario but would a vet not ask if they could afford the treatment before they start Question Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Ok. Blood about to boil here!
There are lots of ways to fund expensive treatment that apparently this poor dog needs.
Actually... I'm just too mad to write anything right now.

If you cannot afford to insure a dog, do not get one.
My daughter has a recue black Labrador which is now a lovely 5 year old but over the 4 years she has had it has cost nearly £3.5K in Vet's bills which includes 2 nights in the world famous Liverpool University "Leahurst",which on her salary would have bankrupted her.
But all paid for by Petplan, www.petplan.co.uk Needless to say no connexion with this company other than satisfied customer.

So if you take on the responsibility of a dog you should be prepared to take on the associated costs.

But she is worth every penny.

PS. Cannot understand why folk pay mega money for dogs (and cats) whilst beautiful dogs like our Lily are available to be rescued from numerous charities.

Had working black labs for years and never had pet insurance. I just put a few quid aside every month for routine vet bills. If lumbered with a big bill I'll just pay it. Once had to take one of my dogs to the big vet hospital near bristol and when given the bill they asked me for insurance details. When I said I didn't have insurance they reduced the bill! Might be wrong but believe insurance cover gets more expensive in a dog's later years as does what is covered. 11 GS Bali Blue

According to my daughter not with Petplan if you take out the "Cover for Life" policy.
Anyway its her dog and her decision.

Some policies only cover items once. A friend of ours used to have a horse and they had a few claims on it during the time they owned it. In the end, only one leg was covered as the other three had had claims on them!

Right Wizking...
You have incurred my absolute WRATH.
Inflated vets fees eh!???
Have you ANY idea of what things cost!?? No !!! You dont!!!
My little practice has been running for a year.
We charge £20 for vaccinations, neutering we are cheaper than anywhere I've ever worked, I offer free consultations.
Trail out in the middle of the f Censored in night for less than a plumber would!!!
To date I have not been able to take my tax allowance this year!!!
So before you cast aspersions on my profession I suggest you do some research on how much equipment, rent, business rates (I pay £1300 a MONTH to DBC. I don't even get a bin!) cost, heating (£300 a month to keep the place warm for animals),
Oh and my staff have a right to get a living wage too. They cuddle your pet, feed it, medicate it, reassure it, stop it from dying.
I do this job because I CARE.
If I was bothered about being rich I would have trained as a human surgeon.
