The village I live in is pretty much Land Rover's target market-mostly wealthy professionals who want a vehicle that reflects that. In terms of car ownership, and 4x4's in particular, there are two FL2's (including mine), one Evoque, 2 of the new Range Rovers and about 7 Audi/BMW's. Of the Audi/BMW owners, one is coming up to changing and seriously considering the Discovery Sport. All of the Land Rover owners have had more than one before and appear to be loyal to the brand. The one considering changing to the Discovery Sport has never had a Land Rover before. I appreciate it's not a particularly representative survey of Audi/BMW owners, but if 10-20% switch, the Discovery Sport is going to be a huge success. It may not be quite my thing (although I do think it is a nice looking car), like the Evoque, it is doing the job it was designed to do-introduce a different demographic to the brand. |

There are a lot of D4 & RR in my area but not too many Freelanders. Lots of X3 & Q5 etc. The DS will be ideal for the 'Upper Middle Bogan' (ABC TV series) who can't afford a RR & would not want to be caught dead in a lower bogan Freelander! The first few frames is the typical car LR is aiming to have replaced with a DS. A few of these targeted vehicles live in my street. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device! It is quite amusing reading how many on this thread are berating the DS for the engine, the very same engine they currently have in their beloved Fl2's. On top of this up so full of praise for the igneium engine which no body has even heard or driven as yet.... 2010MY Freelander 2 HSE Auto

Not with an AA van it won't, I am sure LR will have their own techs on site pretty darn quick if it was an ingenium equipped car. |

I had a surprising follow-up call from LR yesterday, after my fairly recent DS test drives. It became apparent that they had read my feedback written at the end of the event. Call lasted about 10 mins, with LR rep taking detailed notes of why for me the DS feel short of my needs & expectations.

Saw one today for the 1st time as I took my FL2 for its 1st service to Guy Salmon at their new dealership in Stockport , its a drive straight in venue so you get out at the reception area .

12 years ago I ran a VAG 1.9 TDI for 185K miles without issue. For its time it was smooth and powerful while returning a true 58mpg, great engine. Would I go out and purchase a Q5 new with that same engine....not a chance! The FL2's 2.2 has been used for 9 years now and while good was never class lead. Now for a 'premium' model I expect something much more refined, efficient and cleaner for my money. It doesn't make it a bad vehicle because of the engine but does stop me from parting with my money. The fact that the new engine did not make it for launch suggest there have been issues and it could turn out that when it does arrive it may have been rushed and teething problems occurs for the early adopters, which might help the case for those claiming 'it's better the devil you know'.... as for me, I find it unacceptable for a vehicle of this price range and will wait to see how the new engine performs before making a decision. |
