The thing is JLR are styling the body to keep emissions low. If that formula works and sells well, why would you change it? |

Tata apparently will build its own LR DS. Tata DS will not be keeping any of the LR style to keep cost down for an India only market. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Had a quick look at the DS (still to test drive, will wait for new engine) and although an improvement on the FL2 I don't think that the fit and finish is as good as the competitors. Also reported more cabin noise for road/engine/wind from mirroes at speed. Also disappointed to read some of the reviews, seems the low speed ride is firmer and not as good as the FL2, though I would love to be corrected on this.

Having had a test drive I can say it was very hushed at speed, you could tell it was a diesel when idling and when pushed, overall very refined. The Ingenium 2.0D in the XE ain't getting glowing reviews. Many journalists making a big deal of the old engine but it is an improvement over the Evoque/Fl2.

My son as been musing about what to get when he replaces the FL2. It won't be the DS as it's just too expensive for a work car that does a lot of off roading around farms. He was just looking at the JEEP and Toyota 4x4 offerings and they are about £10k cheaper. You can get a new RAV4 for about £24k with 5yr 100k warranty. I feel that unless LR produce something in this sort of price bracket then they will lose a lot of sales. |

Mr Clarkson reviews the DS in the Sunday Times today. he gave it 3 stars (out of 5). I feel, from reading the review, he would have given in 4 or even 5 if it wasn't for the "tractory" engine and he feels one should wait for the new engine promised by LR later this year. Other than that, his comments were very favourable... but he thinks it's a tad pricey. ...
