The next generation Disco is still to come and styling will be based on the vision concept so there will be a family resemblance between the two. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

Scotland 2014 Freelander 2 SD4 Metropolis LE Auto Firenze Red

if Landrover arent carefully all their offerings are going to look the same .

I think that's a huge problem with a lot of manufactures , they design a "family" face then design the rest of the car around it.
I like the look of LR family but it is getting increasingly difficult to tell one car from another at a quick glance , I think you guys would agree we are all LR fans/enthusiasts but what chance has Mr mondeo man telling them apart if D5 looks like a bigger version of the DS. I saw a transporter yesterday full of DS's , I had to look twice as I wasn't sure if it was evoques or RRS as the front ends are just about the same.
LR are not alone in this craziness , my wife likes the fiesta but it's just a bit wee , for a little more money I have convinced her the focus would be a better buy. When we are out and about she likes to point out "that fiesta/focus is a nice one" and to be honest at times I'm struggling to tell them apart at certain angles . Now the mondeo & Galaxy have the same grill .
The days of when cars had bit of individual character are gone . I fear that LR will water down the DS that it will become a joke like the 1.3 Capri . A beautiful car watered down to suit the masses. Do it now ! Your a long time dead !!

The thing is JLR are styling the body to keep emissions low. If that formula works and sells well, why would you change it?

Tata apparently will build its own LR DS. Tata DS will not be keeping any of the LR style to keep cost down for an India only market. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Scotland 2011 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Auto Santorini Black

Had a quick look at the DS (still to test drive, will wait for new engine) and although an improvement on the FL2 I don't think that the fit and finish is as good as the competitors. Also reported more cabin noise for road/engine/wind from mirroes at speed. Also disappointed to read some of the reviews, seems the low speed ride is firmer and not as good as the FL2, though I would love to be corrected on this.

Although favourable there have been a few negative comments on the 9 speed auto/engine combo not always selecting correct gear initially in certain circumstances. I found this with the 6 speed, initially thought it was very good, it is 99% of the time but been caught out too many times now in traffic at roundabouts and junctions where it seems to select too high a gear then decides to change and there is a noticeable delay before you get power. Hopefully the new engine is a better fit.

On the engine: announced that the Evoque is getting the new engine in the facelift model MY 2016? so expected September 'ish. Still no confirmed date for the 2WD DS so wouldn't expect the 4WD to get this engine until next year. This may come back to bite, all current reviews slate the engine for noise/efficiency and when the new engine is released there will be nowhere near as many column inches dedicated to it. Sad

Hope that those lucky people about to get their new toys in a few weeks can give us some insight. Thumbs Up

Having had a test drive I can say it was very hushed at speed, you could tell it was a diesel when idling and when pushed, overall very refined. The Ingenium 2.0D in the XE ain't getting glowing reviews. Many journalists making a big deal of the old engine but it is an improvement over the Evoque/Fl2.

The ride is a bit firmer than the Fl2 but not unpleasant, holds the road well and even with 20'' wheels it was composed over potholes with no creaks or rattles.

I went with the manual as Im not overly impressed with the 8 speed in my D4 and with the Evoque having problems with 9 speed I didn't want to chance it. The manual has a slightly longer gear stick compared with the Fl2 but its a nice shift. Also its nice that they have moved the TR back to being in front of the gearstick rather than behind.

hopefully pick it up in a couple of weeks, it went into build yesterday. I've had a few doubts about it but I'm looking forward to it now. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

My son as been musing about what to get when he replaces the FL2. It won't be the DS as it's just too expensive for a work car that does a lot of off roading around farms. He was just looking at the JEEP and Toyota 4x4 offerings and they are about £10k cheaper. You can get a new RAV4 for about £24k with 5yr 100k warranty. I feel that unless LR produce something in this sort of price bracket then they will lose a lot of sales.

It may be worth having a look at Caradvice Australia. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Mr Clarkson reviews the DS in the Sunday Times today. he gave it 3 stars (out of 5). I feel, from reading the review, he would have given in 4 or even 5 if it wasn't for the "tractory" engine and he feels one should wait for the new engine promised by LR later this year. Other than that, his comments were very favourable... but he thinks it's a tad pricey. ...

drove around my local dealers carpark today,, disco sports parked in amongst evoques there is no real difference.

not a criticism probably all good cars but why not just call it an evoque +2

and Clarkson is probably right,, 40k and you still get the ageing engine????,

with the new engine Im probably in.

but 40+k will get you into a fairly recent rrs or even one of those tractory bread van D4's

40k buys a lot of full fat as well, more repair risks maybe but a 'smile factor' that the disco sport will never manage

depreciation on a used full fat will be way less than a new disco sport

too many factors, thats why I only drove round carpark not entered the fray of the showroom At work
At home
