Rear bumper remove or not for LR fixed flange fit towbar?

Just changed my FL today and need to fit a new towbar.

So, as the title really.

I know that it says in the fitting instructions to remove rear bumper to fit LR fixed flange towbar, but on some posts forum users claim no need, others say it's needed.

Can someone throw some light on this, do dealers choose to remove rear bumper just to make access less fiddly and help with the cut?

Is it physically possible without removal?

CH, don't worry, not another caravan on the road for you to stess about, just a buzzy jetski on the calm lake you're relaxing by!! Laughing

Possible, but for the time it takes to whip the bumper off more than makes up for the cramp in your hands, grazed knuckles and time involved. It's the two panels in Fig 13 that isn't easy, the four bolts at the top need to be removed to get the panels off as the cross member fits behing these two panels.

I agree with Andy above. Also, AFAIK, the LR fixed flange bar will need a bumper cutout. It would be far easier (and accurate) to do this with the bumper removed. Consider a Witter fixed flange, no cutout required and just as good but cheaper! 10MY (Sept 09) TD4 HSE Auto in Stornoway Grey (Now Gone)

I have have had both types

+1 for the Witter Witter. Defiantly went on quicker.
With no cuts

Thanks guys, exactly what I didn't want to hear, but needed to hear!!

Considered the 'no cut' versions, but thought the cut version was neater and wouldn't reduce the exit angle as it was above the trailing edge on the bumper bottom.

Guess I'll prepare to write off the day and hope for a steady cutting hand!

That is true, the LR bar does maintain a better departure angle. It does not affect me as I do not have an all-terrain caravan! Shocked 10MY (Sept 09) TD4 HSE Auto in Stornoway Grey (Now Gone)
