Annoying traffic info

I don't have TA switched on but when I have selected a destination using the satnav I get announcements such as 'In one mile there is slow traffic'. They are never accurate. It seems the system is told where there are long-term roadworks and assumes that means slow traffic. How can I switch this thing off?

Never mind annoying traffic info, by the end of next year(according to HMG) unless you have DAB
you will not get any info of any kind. Censored Censored

there's a thing, is it likely there will be some sort of gismo to let a non dab radio receive dab signals when this momentous event takes place?  MY2014 SD4 XS

Hi Andy,

Thank you for the info.
So I am going to have to spend £150.00 so this grabbing government can use the freed up FM frequency's for other purposes and will be no doubt charging outrageous licencing fees for using them.

I will just have to dig out my CD collection and listen to them as I am not prepared to subsidise the robbing Censored anymore.

This is exactly what is happening with PMR frequency's and yet there are thousands of unused frequency's kept by the Government (For use by the Lancaster Bombers for instance) which could be released.

What's DAB coverage like these days? Last time I heard it was pretty abysmal once away from the main population centres.

I live in a countryside village between Hull and the coast, no broken reception at all in travelling the rural area but maybe the flat terrain gives me an advantage. Travelling main route to Cornwall is good also and only notice momentary loss through small towns with high buildings to each side. Pretty well pleased with the reception I'm getting.

I know the mainstream press were saying in 2009 that December 2015 would be the switch-off date for analogue radio but I don't believe this has been confirmed yet. In fact, The Register (an IT industry online news source) wrote in 2009:

'[Lord] Carter wants major broadcasters off analogue. He wants a date - his own preferred is 31/12/2015 - and he wants this date (whatever it may be - note the uncertainty already creeping into the details) to be announced two years ahead of time. But he points out that this should only be approved if the criteria set out by the DRWG (Digital Radio Working Group) has been met. Which is:

'50 per cent of listening is digital [not the same as DAB, note]
DAB is comparable to FM coverage, and local DAB reaches 90 per cent of all population, and all major roads.'

The article concluded that the December 2015 aspiration 'won't be met'. Admittedly this is an old story but I haven't been able to find anything online that supersedes it. I suspect that if the Government had made a formal announcement two years ahead of the suggested December 2015 date, then it would have come up somewhere on the Web.

The latest proposed date for the switching off FM I saw was 2018 and that seems to have fallen by the wayside too. I don't think there are the same motivations out there as there were for the swtich to DigitalTV, so wouldn't be surprised if it never happens...
