Went and looked at one in the dealers this afternoon. The salesman wasn't trying the hard sell and had a blether about it and the evoque. Considering that it's basically the same price bracket, to me, unless you need the boot space, the evoque is the better option.

The plastic inside the DS is just not that great feeling. Defo cheaper feel compared to the evoque. I perceived that the rear foot space was better in the evoque, and in general the seats were comfier too. It doesn't have the command driving position feel either , that seems gone.

The front has lost the lr square look too. Too generic.

Overall, just not that impressed. I can't get out my head that for the same money as the evoque, I should be getting evoque quality , feel and finish . . . . And I'm not. So I reckon my next will be an evoque.

To get what's on my DS HSE an Evoque is well over 40k, the plastics are the same in both cars. I took an Evoque from launch and I wasn't impressed with the quality of the car, don't be fooled by the Range Rover image, it's anything but. The DS is far superior in terms of quality and space. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

The plastics aren't the same. They feel noticeably different, the DS having a firmer more course matt finish, the evoque a softer smoother finish. Especially on the door up by the glass.

It's not that the DS is bad plastic, just to me not as nice as the evoque.

Admittedly, both in the show room were top line models and specs, but. I just felt the evoque was the better of the two at similar price points.

2010 Freelander 2 TD4 XS Manual Orkney Grey

My Freelander is due to change so I went to look at the DS. Didn't like it at all. Apart from the styling, the back seats don't fold flat (they remain slightly tipped up behind the front seats) but the worst thing was the tailgate. When open it's on a level with my forehead and has two very sharp corners. There's no doubt at all that I'd do myself some damage on it so I've opted for a low mileage ex-demo Freelander instead.

Was the Tailgate fully open, it can be set to open to a lower height if there are obstructions above, ie Multi Storey Car Park? p****d off with a Digital Keyboard Warrior

I was talking to the salesman about it and he could see my problem (OK, I'm 6'4" tall but I don't have to duck to get under a Freelander tailgate). He didn't suggest that it could open higher.

I think it has a larger depth, perhaps for rear impact protection for row 3.

2013 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Auto Stornoway Grey

Well, being an old long term Land Rover owner, I gave heard the same comments time and time again sincere the birth if the original Range Rover, that not being a Defender it's not a proper Land Rover, then when the Spirt same out, the same comments from the Land Rover die bards, and yes, exactly the same with the original Freelander, how it wasn't a proper Land Rover, wouldn't do what a proper Land Rover can do, ugly car etc etc, yes even the Evoque was treated by horror line it was the bar steward son, yet both Evoque and Freelander 2 have sold over 114,000 per year.
Now RR and RRS not real landues, yet 88,000 order book to fill.

So you Freelander die hards are following the time served snooty not a proper Land Rover, ugly etc etc and it makes me smile.

I have had them all, and currently drive a 190 HSE 13 my soon to be traded in for a disco sport HSE lux. Same engine, but when you drive them back to back, the DS is a revelation, go over a speed bump, one squeaks and creaks and the other is totally silent, yes disco sport so much quieter, both with the 190 DW12, but the difference in acceleration, smoothness with the 9HP gearbox is amazing
Add to that how much quieter the disco Sport is not just in road and engine noise, but in cabin noise, and how it's doesn't roll going hard found a corner, then you are missing what truly is a Freelander upgrade.
