Smart key case and chrome refresh

Hey!

I have done a search and it appears that nobody has "refreshed" the outer of one of their smart keys yet, but I may be wrong of course. The thread I did find at the top was getting a new key which was £100s of course.

So - as my car had over 1000 miles as a sales staff car before being lucky enough to join us, I am sorting a scuffed key that has been previously unloved. The body varies in price from £6 ish to £8.50 ish (you swap your existing internals) and the chrome cap I found for £19.99 - all genuine from proper LR dealers of course.

Has anybody done this and have some tips? If not I will be soldiering on anyway and will report back Thumbs Up SD4 HSE Lux

I almost sprayed mine last week to match the purple trims, but I didn't know if it would affect the anchoring system Confused

They are not for me though, I like the bling original and I believe that the rubber coloured ones say "Range Rover" unless there is a freelander type too. Maxed Ross, I am talking about the later pebble type key - I think with your type key the paint will rub off where the key makes contact with the dock. SD4 HSE Lux

Mine says LANDROVER on the back ... I've had both my keys swapped a few months ago by the dealer . The rubber was lifting up on the front side. Also had to put a new battery in last week and the key case splits open and all the insides are in a self contained little housing ,if you buy new a new case it's easy to change over . Have a good look around the edges of your original key , if the rubber is pealing get a brand new one on landrover. Good luck. Is your second key a bit scruffy ? Also I swapped my old scruffy chrome part with the loan cars key at service time ... !!! 2007 freelander 2 XS td4 Stornaway Grey .... GONE

Cheers, second key is perfect thanks, and unfortunately there is no lifting on my "bad" one to get a free swap, it is just quite scuffed.

Glad to hear that the change over is easy...famous last words lol!! I am not due a key swap courtesy car for a while I hope given that mine is brand new...but you never know with Land Rovers Whistle Laughing SD4 HSE Lux

All done, turns out that the shiny front "land rover" part of the smart key just pops off and of course we know the chrome comes off to gain access to the key blade.

As the rear part where the buttons are was still nice due to it being matt and not polished - I did not need to change over the insides of the key i.e. the battery, transponder, etc etc.

Brand new looking genuine key for £25 Thumbs Up SD4 HSE Lux
