New member question about FL2 door mirror sticking

Hi All,
just joined the forum and had a quick search of topics. I've just got a second hand 2011 TD4GS with 55K on clock. I'm still finding my way round it but the other day, as I unlocked the car, the drivers mirror juddered as it opened. Hasn't happened since but I see some older posts on same problem.. but nobody says you can easily lubricate the mechanism ..
so Q1 .. is this not possible and if so how to get covers off ..
Q2 .. do I potentially need a new mirror and how much ?
regards

Maybe a light spray with a silicone spray would work Black FL2

I am puzzled Question

Surely a light spray with some silicone spray is less OTT than your second option of a potential new mirror Shocked Black FL2

Manually pull the mirror as far forward as it will go which exposes the mirrror mechanism, apply a generous amount of sillicone spray or similar, manually return mirror to normal position and then open and close it using the motor a couple of times and it should all be sorted. (Which is basically what the original link suggested)

Agree. but the link you gave me suggests wrenching the mirror back and forth. Shocked
Another older post suggested a dealer can turn off the mirrors, which seems a better option seeing as they don't retract that much.

I'm also considering replacing the fog lights with round LED replacements I noticed on ebay, seeing as one of the glass is badly cracked anyway. I wonder if you know if anyone did this .. as well as being a part solution to retro fitting DLR's.

No need to go to the Dealer to turn off the mirrors.

If your wanting yours out all the time press the buttons on the door to close them, then manually pull them open

They will stay there till you press the buttons again.
