windscreen chip

Dropped wife at work this morning, stone from lorry in front hit the windscreen Censored . Large chip in middle but not cracked. Does anyone know if insurance covers chips or just cracks?. Any ideas before I ring insurance company. Screen is heated.

Auto glass etc advertise chip repairs often being free and they handle the insurance.

I have a chip in mine which has been resin fixed. Heated screen as well, and so far it's been fine for a couple of years, including ice starts etc.

Thanks for that fisha Thumbs Up . Sooner try and get it repaired without going through hassle of getting it replaced.

If it has to be replaced insist genuine LR part used. Might be a little hassle but persevere. All FL2's (3) Gone

Hi LR WILD,

I've got through 4 windscreens in 3 years - the first 3 within a 6 month period. All stones thrown up by other cars resulting in 'chips', one was the size of a 50p that looked more like a bullet hole. Last one was a crack that suddenly appeared and spread across 2/3 of the windscreen in a couple of days.

I'm with Landrover Insurance and they have a separate phone line for windscreens which directs you to a national windscreen company like Auto Glass who do the actual job either at your home or place of work. If the chip is larger than a 5p and in the drivers eyeline then they'll replace the windscreen no questions asked, all you have to do is pay the excess of £60 to £80 if you need a new windscreen (a lot less if it's a repair) and it's Landrover parts which can take a week for them to get.

Hope that was helpful.

Quick update guys, rang national windscreens which turns out have a branch 1/2 mile away from me.
Told me to fetch it straight away to be repaired. From initial phone call to job finished less than 50 mins! Very Happy
Perfect job. Wish my land rover dealer was as efficient! Whistle . Thanks guys.

Hi Iain
Chip was about half the size of a five pence. Very good repair, barely noticeable just a small little dot.

thanks LR WILD, reason I'm asking is that I've one on my MX5 windscreen but pretty small and I think a repair would just make it more noticeable, if you know what I mean.

about 2mm long and 1mm wide, not that deep.

Hi iain,

I would consider getting it repaired, my repair is barely visible and I only know it's there because I know where to look for it
Asked the other half to see if it was noticeable to her and she couldn't even find it. Cost me nothing and they sorted insurance out. Smile

Matt
