Tungsten filaments don't like vibration shock. Cattle grids and level crossings are a known problem as are rough road surfaces prior to resurfacing.

Funny this topic has arisen, one of my bulbs blew recently too. I've swapped back in an old bulb that I kept in the glove box, and I don't really notice much difference, yet I did with putting the new ones in ... I wonder if they degrade over time???

Either way, was less than 12 months I got out of the bulb ... which is a bit disappointing compared to previous bulbs of a similar up-spec design I've had in other cars.

I'm of the thought that one lamp (dip and full beam) that uses the shutter system as in 2013 and greater models would be better for longevity. Tungsten filament bulbs do not like thermal shock so having one bulb on continuously rather than being switched on and off should be better in the long run.

Also interesting to note with halogen bulbs is that they are very sensitive to voltage, just a 0.6v rise from their rated voltage gives 15% more light but also halves their rated life span, So a lot depends on the FL2's voltage control module.

The 6th headlight bulb in about 6 months has just blown last night(including the originals which lasted nearly 2 years)

I have been using Halfords high output HB3's and have been very careful to handle and fit them correctly........I am quite an expert by now as you can imagine!! From searching, poor life seems to be a problem anyway but this is ridiculous!!

I have seen the Osram nightbreakers mentioned. What are others using and what sort of life are you getting??

I have wondered whether it is worth not switching the lights to Auto to protect them a bit??

Not had a problem with lights blowing on Land Rover's but on Renaults, yes, turned the Auto Lights off, went from blowing Nightbreakers at the rate of two a month to zero in a year.
Put it down to the Voltage Control, not being able to contain the voltage after start up.
