If you get the twang when accelerating or braking or even going over bumpy roads it could be the same twang that I was getting on my previous FL2. I had a nightmare trying to get it resolved with LR and I even noticed a couple of their courtesy cars they loaned me did it (albeit to a lesser effect). Took about 4 x 1 week stints at the stealer to resolve and I never got a full explanation of the cure (they had sent it to a away somewhere else who told the dealers techinican who told the service girl who told me so it was a bit like chinese whispers!), from what i could make out it was the chassis catching on the bodywork.

I know exactly what you are going through, I loved my FL2 and also hated it because of this fault, it finally got resolved after 1 year so i got to enjoy 2 twang free years of motoring, my new SD4 is also twang free so am well happy! Now - 2017 BMW X3 M Sport Carbon Black
Gone - 2014 BMW X3 M Sport Space Grey, faultless!
Gone - 2011 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Bali Blue with xenons
Gone - 2008 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Rimini Red with bodykit

Does anybody know how does the "steering column rubber grommet" look like. I want the whistle to disappear so much. Some photos would be nice. Dealer said its ok bla bla. Is the grommet visible from inside , is it above the cars floor and finally whats the part number? Thank you in advance !

Is the part number!
Good luck!
Alternatively just stuff a rag into the hole where the steering column goes through the floor.

I would check that your current gater/seal is fitted correctly first, do a Google image search for LR001093, should show you an image of the part. I suspect that this is not seated correctly. Unfortunately I can't post images on my old iPad, not got my iPhone with me at the moment!
I don't hear any turbo noise in side the car.

Rich when you'll have a moment and your iphone available please post some photos. Part which you've posted is hard to find on the internet as well as the fitting place. I will try to put sth inside the hole. Thanks for your replies.

Yes Rich i've seen this picture. The grommet will be 3D677. From the inside it is not visible then being under the plastic part which is on the floor level. The question is if i will be brave enough to take the plastic part with screws up and check the grommet because there is not a lot of space between floor and steering wheel joint. I've just put a piece of pipe isolation inside as you've told me and it WORKS ! I can hear the turbo a bit but its a lot better. Anyway it has to be done properly so i will try to check the grommet. If you've done this please give me some clues. I wouldn't solve whistling problem by myself, you're doing a great job !

Yes that is the part. I have not had a problem, but it looks like the sensible first thing to check. I get the diagrams from http://lrparts.net.ru they have English as well as Russian.

It's so strange for me to read this thread.
The whistle, perceived lack of power, hesitation etc used to drive me crazy.
Bought Lloyd new, had for 2years... Eventually ex Mr MM cajoled me into Eva the RRE...
and since then I've had almost no car problems for over a year.
It's interesting that this noise still plagues unfortunate ears!
