I don't know which models or manufacturers are involved but I imagine that a ship at that angle, its cargo wont be individually lashed in place and it will be a mess inside.

Hi Taz,

Those of us who can watch daytime TV will have seen a series of 10 programmes about the English Channel called "Channel Patrol"dealing with the RN, RNLI, Coastguard fishing etc.
Also an episode about the container port and vehicle shipping docks showing one of these big vessels and every car, truck digger etc. was fastened down.
All the vehicles had a pre planned position and were at a max of 300 mm spacing,
Have just checked BBC I Player and these programmes have expired but the IT experts among the forum may be able to access them somehow.

hi Bill
Yes, I have read somewhere since that all the vehicles are 'tethered' usually by straps attached to the towing eyes, we know the Land Rover products towing eyes are very robust, I wonder how the others fair Laughing

Sounds like a longer salvage operation than expected and lets hope it all comes good in the end Thumbs Up

I often see these heading down to Southampton, usually a few on the Dock at Southampton awaiting shipment.

Many years ago I worked for a Japanese car importer and a transporter ship went down near Gibraltar. They were only interested in salvaging the ship & so pushed all the vehicles out and left them at the bottom of the sea.

wasn't there a car transported that sank in the channel a few years ago that was salvaged by cutting it into chunks with a huge cheese wire?

I remember seeing pictures of the cars still strapped to the decks - but now cut in half Laughing

I read somewhere that a JCB digger bucket swung loose and punched a hole in the hull but I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere since.
