Glad I've got a manual. Fill up to fill up on a 380 mile drive to Glasgow, two up, gear for a week self catering, (Chicken George would be proud!!), two back packs of camera gear,tripods plus waterproofs and footwear for walking in a Scottish summer, we got 37mpg at motorway speeds Wink . Current overall average is 32mpg. Smile

Have you checked that the parking brakes aren't binding/full of mud? It really doesn't take much to reduce mpg. I do just leave the climate control on auto, keep windows closed. Stops the drag but uses fuel for aircon'. My fl2 has mud flaps, spoiler and mantec sump and tank protection but no other extranious bits, extra lights aerials mirrors, but its still a large brick with drag to match.
I don't know what the effect of blocked intercooler radiators is, but I suspect that will reduce the efficiency of the turbo. Driving through slurry (thin mud) will block them to the point that the front has to come off to clean them properly. You need to get at the back of the intercooler radiator to do that, not just the front that you can see through the grill.
On super chips, don't bother, get a properly done remap of the ecu. Chip boxes just fool the ecu to give more fuel, not to use the fuel more efficiently.

38.1mpg on a 120mile trip yesterday mainly on the motorway ('09 auto). I've noticed with most cars it takes a really long journey for everything to heat up and reach peak efficiency.

I did remove the inter cooler + the radiator and cleaned them out properly, as I had got stuck in some deep sandy mud
I believe the supper chip / blue fin is a proper remap ? Correct me if a'am wrong
I have a cb ariel plus Mantec tank guard but that's it so far

Short journeys are the killer. Unfortunately, now I am retired, that is what I do most of. You can see my current average fuel consumption in my signature below. Click on the icon and you will see data since when I bought it in February last year. It's the only way to gauge accurate fuel consumption! I agree on the comment about short journeys hence being happy with the 32 mpg calculated by fuel filled and milage travelled over the last 3.5 years. To put it in to a bit of perspective, swmbo has a peugeot 207 1.4 that is only used for short journeys around town and it uses about the same as the fl2. Even a Citroen Berlingo 1.8diesel used on a 30 mile each way commute only does about 45mpg. Guess which I'd rather drive? Big engine relaxed driving or small engine always having to keep the rev's up to get anywhere.
On super chips type boxes my understanding is that they are still an add on box and will be a generalisation of maps for an fl2. Go to a proper engine specialist and they will customise the map for your engine and driving style. You should of course declare the remap/chip box to your insurance. The chances of anyone noticing the remap after an accident would be pretty low unless they were looking for it. The chances of finding an extra box hanging down in the foot well or engine compartment a bit higher.

That's no good was there any positives with the blue fin much more power etc
Is there a better option

Back in Kent averaged 36.8 mpg so happy on the return trip

Well, I've just chopped the old bus in, and I've achieved an average of 30.3mpg over 70,000 miles in nearly 2 1/2 years of lapping Manchester every day, with the morning run being carried out in "pushing on" mode, and the evening run in "why aren't we moving" mode. I can't complain at this at all, and am looking forward to see how the new bus (SD 190 engine) does in comparison.

MPG update, I am now averaging 525 to the tank full, approx. 60L stop on first click at pump.
dashboard averages 42 + for long journeys and for quite a few miles last week on way to newbury having reset trip A gave me 46.8. all at 70mph + (ahem)
overall VERY pleased as this is quite a big lump of a machine. Very Happy Hit it he said, Hit it!--So I hit it, then he hit me---Doh!
