I seem to remember that it has been said on here that stop/start models already have a second earth lead. If so, you are unlikely to need a third. Thumbs Up

Good job, great write up.

I will make some cables up next week!
Guys - just to say I have ordered from Boringoldgit one of these - http://www.advancedfactors.co.uk/pes20c-ba...4085-p.asp - Hoping this will fix my problem when it is fitted next month Smile

Thought I would do this and fit the extra earth lead. However I'm a bit confused as when I removed my air filter box I was expecting to see a starter motor bolt to connect to as per the picture on page 5:

However all I'm seeing is this:

My starter motor appears to be down at the front of the engine. Or am I being thick?

I'm still having probs but not as bad... thinking duff relay ( as I here clicking from the foot well when I start ) or a tired battery....

It was me being thick, I couldn't see the bolts at first and thought I was having to connect to the far side. Sorted it in the end.

United Kingdom 2009 Freelander 2 TD4_e XS Manual Bali Blue

Hi There,
I'm quite new to the forum and have just discovered this thread which has answered some questions i had but posed some new ones.
I have a 59 TD4e which for little while on cold starts has been slow to start and been giving me the HDC unavailable message.
I thought it's due for a service i'll get them to check it out then.
Anyway service booked for today,my wife was going to drop it off on her way to work.
She goes out to start up (temp -4)HDC message, slow turn over then nothing,it refused to start.
She tried a couple more times but no dice.
When i got home i checked it out, Battery virtually dead. central locking worked but no life on dash when key docked.
I tried to jump start, nothing.
I've now removed battery to charge it.
My question is this really, My Td4e has double earth leads as discussed earlier in the thread, yet i'm still having these problems.
Do i have other issues to explore or will a new battery solve my problems?

Thanks for your time

David.

I reckon it could be your battery, just changed mine on my 10plate TD4.e. I got the battery checked out at a battery place and it was only holding 60% of its charge. Put a new battery in last week and the stop start is working fine and the engine turns over quicker in the cold weather than the old battery did.

If your battery is the origional it will be 5 years old so could be past it's best especially with the cold snap we have now. If you do get a new battery make sure it's an 80 Ah 800 CCA battery, some places will try and sell you a 70 Ah battery and that's too small for the car. Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.

Thanks Stevie,
I was coming to that conclusion.
Factory fit is 80amp so will be looking for same as replacement, but thanks for the heads-up.
There are a lot of companies offering 70amp, buyer beware as usual.

Cheers,
David.

I've just put a Varta F21 Agm in mine, cost 135 quid as my local battery place priced match the internet then I had to fit it myself, 10 minute job. Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.

You took the question right out of my keyboard there!
i'm checking out batteries online, was about to ask for recommendations.
Bosch S5 010 85Ah 800 SAE looks unto the job. Only £99 too. I used them in my Jeep Cherokee for years.
Just need to check dimensions.
Ill check out the Varta too.

Thanks.
David.

The origional in mine was a varta. I was recommended by the Indy I use to get a exide agm, EK800. My Indy quoted an arm and a leg so I looked online, the Varta was quite abit cheaper. The battery size from memory is 110.

Only other thing I can think of is your alternator charging the battery? I would suspect the battery first but always better to check. Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.

Hi Stevie,
I notice the Varta you mention is 19cm high whereas the factory fit is only 17cm.
Did you have any fitting issues?

Cheers
David.

No issues, battery went straight in, everything was tightend up and the battery case lid went straight back on. Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.
