If that is part of the electronic throttle body, did it affect the running of the car in any way? I would have thought the missing teeth would have made the car less responsive to the accelerator pedal.

It's a diesel engine, not a gasoline one...
In a gasoline engine you need to keep the air/fuel to a 12-14:1 ratio. Therefore you need to adjust the fuel AND the air quantity.
On the diesel engine, the power/RPM is adjusted ONLY by the diesel fuel injected quantity. So the throttle on diesel FL2 is only used for keeping the engine's shudder on shutdown to a minimum and in some cases for raising the EGT during DPF cleaning.

Had the same fault on our FL2. Engine light on. I removed and cleaned the throttle, but on moving the butterfly the motion was smooth with even restriction, and no notchy feel, so I guess our gears are not gone. I did not want to destroy the valve to check the gears, so refitted and cleared the ECU faults. For a few runs there was some odd sounding opening and closing noises form the valve on shut-down that seemed to go on for a while, but now all seems well and no more engine lights. If I interrogate the ECU however, I get some greyed out codes for this and other faults. Anyone shed some light, the report reads

[Current Fault Log
------------------
ECU reports no current faults

Pending Fault Log
------------------
ECU reports no pending faults

Historic Fault Log
------------------
ECU reports no historic faults
Other discovered fault codes
(possibly pending, current or manufacturer specific)
----------------------------------------------------
P02E9: Unknown code - More information may be available on the web
P02E4: Unknown code - More information may be available on the web
P02E8: Unknown code - More information may be available on the web
P0380: Glow Plug/Heater Circuit "A"
P1298: [Honda] Electrical Load Detector Circuit High Input

P061B: Unknown code - More information may be available on the web
P02E1: Unknown code - More information may be available on the web
P1259: [Honda] VTEC System Malfunction
[Seat/Audi/Volkswagen] Engine Coolant System Valve Short to Ground

End of report.

Are these still valid faults, or stored ones that take a period of running to convince the car that all is well? I am using the TORQUE android app to read the codes.

Thanks in advance for the help.

I have engine light sometimes coming on with "ENGINE SYSTEM FAULT" message. Sometimes light comes on when engine starts, sometimes driving. Sometimes I feel lack of power, even when pedal pressed fully down.

I did the diagnostic with JLR SDD and got the error code that throttle valve is stuck. I will check the throttle body tomorrow.

The unit in my freel is LR001001 but the newer one shows LR012598.
I hope that simple throttle body change will solve the problem for 2007 TD4 2.2 diesel Bow down

I am wondering if this could be causing my intimitant problem starting? After I stop the engine it does seam to be making noises for longer.

How easy is it to remove?

Paul,

The P02E4 codes are errors to do with the air intake control flap. It may be that even after resetting them, they remain in the memory as persistent codes because the vehicle thinks its a total failure of the part.

It does look like the flap has seized and the motor stripped the teeth in the pictures. The carbon build up from the EGR system and leaks from the turbo seals can be enough to deposit and stick these things in place ... especially with the heat of the engine cooking everything. Wouldn't be a bad thing to make clean it once in a blue moon.

As already mentioned, diesels just need to cut the fuel to stop the engine.

They have the flaps nowadays to make sure the air is cut off just incase there are any fumes in the air that could still combust and keep the engine running. ( In theory, oil weeping past the turbo seals could enter the intake and keep the engine running, even if fuel wasn't being added - only way to stop it would be stop the air too. ).

Hi Rami, I would suggest starting a new thread and posting a video with sound, this will help with diagnosis. Thumbs Up

2010 Freelander 2 TD4_e XS Manual Fuji White

Just had mine changed due to stripped gears. Switched the car off Friday , no noises or prior worries but going back to the car it wouldn't start. Dealer took it out after recovery and it was shut solid and preventing the car from starting due to no air into the system. The new one seems to have also solved a flat spot I had on accelerating.

Insurance paid but it appears that it's a common fault, I can add that one to he pinion diff gear and the RLH wheel bearing.

Still a great car though.

Just got home and after shutting down the engine there is a loud rattle, from the part that usually makes a noise on shutdown. It also does it when key is inserted. Any ideas? Sounds like a motor gone dry

It's is coming from this area

Exact same thing happened for first time last night. I got that squawking/screeching sound where your finger is pointing. When you press on that silver casing part it affects the sound it makes so it's definitely that part that is causing the noise. The question I have, is, is that the EGR or ELECTRONIC THROTTLE or are they all one unit? I don't want to replace an entire EGR if it's just the ELECTRONIC THROTTLE attached to it? Thanks for any help

Throttle body is different to EGR valve. Not sure what is being pointed to, sorry.
