I must admit it's something I have often considered and never got around to doing anything about it. Mercedes always fit theirs ( or used too) at the base of the passenger seat, easily accessible.
It will be interesting if anyone does have one.

I got a 2ltr AFFF and keep it in the back.

(edit: part of my thinking was that if you ever discharge a powder extinguisher inside the vehicle it would make such a mess you might as well let it burn to get a replacement on the insurance ) Currently a FL1 owner.

I carry one now due to a slight mishap .
Get a big one as it takes about 50 seconds to go from a little bit of smoke in the engine bay to engulfed in flames.

You could always get two smaller ones though and fit one in the footwell and pop the other by the spare wheel, not recommended but just a bit more more piece of mind without the need to have a giant cylinder in the car.

I have not fitted mine yet as the wife will not let it go in front of her comfy seat. So I am still mulling over where to put it.

Bought 2 Chubb Quell 1kg ABE extinguishers. 1 for the car and 1 for the garage. Haven't worked out how to fix it to the car yet, but in front of the seat would be the best place.

As a Committee Member for our block of units. Government requirements in NSW Australia is to have a 5 kg CO2 extinguisher in the electrical room. Of our own accord the Committee have also put a 4.5 kg ABE in the common laundry, although it is not actually required. I also have a 1 kg ABE and fire blanket in investment property (not actually required).

Hopefully you will never need a fire extinguisher!

Forgot to mention, I had an extinguisher in my previous cars.

After looking at the Catalyst program again, I am almost inclined to get a 2 kg ABE. I did have a look at the 2 kg ABE when buying the 1 kg but the 2 kg is quite a bit larger & would be difficult to place in a car. Maybe 2 x 1 kg is the go, for redundancy! Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

I carry a small one (1kg I think it is) in the gap between drivers door and seat (yes it may go bang in a side impact so its not perfect), I also have a couple of kilo one in the spare wheel well, along with all the other gubbins. WE have 50kg wheeled ones on site and they are the business, but I'm not sure how practical they'd be in the boot


To be fair, after having done a few courses on the use of extinguishers, unless you are very quick or lucky, I'd let a vehicle burn... unless there was life at stake 2000 Xei 1.8 gone

I carry a small powder one in the glove box and have done for years... and last year it got used in anger when a leaking gas stove on a camp site needed extinguishing. Worked a treat. Now replaced. You never know when you might need it. 2016 BMW X3 30d SE in red

Do not carry one for normal about town motoring but when officiating on car rally's carry 2x2kg. and 1x4kg. dry power as these have greater "knock down" power that most other types.
Only thing to remember before using dry power type extinguisher's is to give them a smart tap on the floor, turn upside down, shake and then go into action.
Reason for this is that the powder compacts over time in the car due to vibrations of the vehicle.
If the fire is under the bonnet, release the safety but do NOT attempt to lift bonnet fully, fire power through the gap and gradually lift the bonnet if you think it is safe to get power to back of engine bay.

Attended a memorable burn on the A3. I was southbound. A Dutton kit car coming north had a blowout and came neatly through the gap in the central reservation to do a head on with a little Peugeot up ahead of me. I avoided the wreck and went to help carrying my 1.36 kg DrP extinguisher and medical clobber. The couple in the Peugeot weren't too clever but the Dutton driver was trapped by the legs in the wreckage. As I reached it fire took hold. Took all the extinguisher aimed direct on to the igniting fire to subdue it just long enough for us to decide he was coming out legs or no. Fire kept re-igniting. Fortunately his legs came with him. Lucky chap it was a very close call. The grp body on the Dutton disappeared in a few minutes. So from then on I have a 2kg in each car - anything much less would not have done the job in that particular circumstance.

Dry Powder is highly corrosive to electrical systems and wiring, if used and vehicle is repairable wiring/electrical gremlins will plague you for rest of its life. This starts quite some time afterwards, too long for any comeback on insurance.
Positive is that dry powder is a very effective extinguishant. All FL2's (3) Gone
