I was heading out for a meeting the other day and reset my fuel comsumption. Heading to the motorway I was getting about 25. Got on the motorway and after about 20 minutes noticed it had gone up to 38! That s new record for me but it kept getting better and better as it crept upto 40, then 42, 44 and even 48!!! Then i noticed that I was looking at the AVERAGE SPEED!!! Duhhhhhhh! (must have caught the button when indicating!!!) Now - 2017 BMW X3 M Sport Carbon Black

I've done a couple of trips this week and recorded ...

320miles @ 45.5 ave.mpg and 201 miles @ 44.4 ave.mpg.

Looking at total miles so far this tank 547 with needle still showing 1/4 full.

Oh, and no mistakes between mpg and mph !

Mines an auto and i have always been told that an auto will achieve about 6mpg less than a manual, how true that is i do not know. my best mpg is 36.5mpg. Now - 2017 BMW X3 M Sport Carbon Black

Yes as the DSG style boxes have no torque converter there is less power loss thru the gearbox, so no reason why they cant be as good as a manual. At work

OK, current tank of fuel has given some excellent results and its getting better. Just 'nipped' out on little job this evening and put another 60 miles on this tankful ...

The low fuel warning light came on at ... ... ... ... ... 609 miles at which point the range showed 69 miles. Back home I'm at 619 miles with the range showing 47 miles. Next time I use will involve a cold start so that will knock the range down quite a bit, we'll so how far it gets..... I'm on a mission now !

I've managed 43.3mpg on over 300 miles this week and thats with less than 1000 miles on the clock. Mind you it was M25 with 50mph restriction for most of the way, plus a nice relaxed run to Bournemouth and back. Sat in traffic a mile from home and it dropped down to 42mpg in about 2 minutes. Have noticed that as soon as you go over 80mph, consumption jumps dramatically but that 6th gear is awesome!

I've had my FL2 for 3 weeks now and have clocked up 1600 miles. Most of these have been on my 80 mile return trip commute (a mix of country A roads and in town nose to tail) and for these journeys the trip computer reports 32.7mpg. I have had one longer trip of 350 miles for which I got 37 mpg (at one point the trip computer was reading 39 mpg then I got bogged down in the M25 Friday afternoon car park ).

I think that these figures are good for the car and to be honest better than I was expecting given that it is an Auto.

So far, apart from a large grin , nothing else to report. _________________

OK I bottled out with the range down 17 miles, so I pulled into my local Tesco and filled it right up!

67.9 litres to fill (£86.29 with the 5p off promotion!)

656.6 miles since last fill

= 44.00mpg

Over the last 4 months I have driven 6,000 miles all over the UK / Ireland and consumption is averaging between 40 - 44. I do enjoy heading North (lees traffic) and using the cruise control.....compared to my last car (VW Touran DSG - 2.0 Tdi very difficult to attain 44mpg) the Land Rover is much more refined and very quiet. 600 miles + on a tank allows great flexibility and choice when fills are needed, especially if you can get £0.05 off per litre from Tesco Kerching that ££££££ saved....OK maybe just £3.00 but better in my pocket.

Last week I borrowed an auto FL2 and covered 120 miles averaged around 36mpg (£18.00 worth of the black stuff) with 15 miles left of driving on the fuel computer, why do dealers never give out cars with any fuel in them

Having had a petrol pool car for the last three months, my £80 tank fill made me pass out and and I have just come round!
