Its amazing how governments push for people to use things ( such as diesal engines ) because they are more efficient etc... and then raise the price of everything related to it ( fuel, car tax, where you can drive without paying etc etc.. )

I dont do politics but I get really annoyed at being priced out of the items that I want by the government. They see it as the only way to steer people to do what they want. What it actually does is mean that the wealthy can do anything and us common folk cant.

They must think that people are stupid - bring on the revolution ( or at least lets address how Europe is actually benefitting us )

Wink

As the PSA Group (Peugeot/Citroën) - one of the key diesel engine manufactures, that's a bit rich coming from the French. Rolling Eyes FL2 now gone and have a couple of items left for sale:-

Erm, they already did - this is a policy of post-revolution France! Strange how similar post-revolution policies turn out to be in comparison with those of revolution-free countries. As Orwell predicted, of course! Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose!

Interesting: France is the country where the rural community has a disproportionate say in government policy; the country where the rural community overwhelmingly drives diesel vehicles; the country where diesel is still considerably cheaper at the pumps than unleaded petrol as a result.

I can't see this policy going anywhere except the waste-paper bin!

Thats's what I was thinking. Only the French could think of this. Diesel cars have been far more popular over there & beyond for moons longer than we have had them.

Still one way to look at that is it could rid us of around 90% of those horrid French cars. (Past) Freelander 2 HSE 2010 MY In Rimini Red.

France 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Manual Narvik Black

As someone who lives in France I can't see this happening in any meaningful way. The legislation will be fudged. You may be aware the French brought in a law saying we must all carry breathalysers in our cars - it got fudged in as much as the legislation is still there but you cannot be done for non compliance!

Petrol is much more expensive than diesel here and if diesel was put up by any significant amount the price of everything would shoot up (France is a very large place and stuff/people have to travel large distances) so I can't see the French putting up with it. The main problem is in Paris where pollution is bad - and where the politicians are based!

To put it all in a UK perspective, I filled up with diesel yesterday and paid the equivalent of 87p a litre!

BTW, don't forget that PSA engines wind up in many different cars including Land Rovers, Ford etc. John
