Hi Dorsetfreelander,

My waterpump was not replaced, only the belt and tensioner. Can tell you that mine was the first one that was done by the agents, not sure whether they would have checked that.....probably not.

Belt did not look bad at all!

I used to know a guy who works for a garage that often did cambelts on cars like Peugeots, VWs etc etc at around 60k miles and they always recommended doing the waterpump and tensioners. He has done a few engine rebuilds caused by "cambelt failure" but in each case it was bearings in either one of the tensioners or the waterpump that had caused the belt to slip which and otherwise looked in good condition. I guess that small engines do a lot more revs than a 2.2 diesel so this might have some bearing on the matter.

When VW replaced the wifes Polo engine under warranty, they asked me if I wanted a new cam belt, tensioner and water pump fitting at the same time while it was out. For what it cost I said yes. They don't do that as part of the engine replacement so thought it was a good idea.

Finland timing belt, waterpump ( 240tkm repair )

i have asked local dealer how much cost to do this 240tkm repair to my freelander 2 07year model.

they told it would cost 2000euros = 1 549 pounds. They told allso that they have to drop motor to get acces to waterpumps ect? is this true that it need to be dropped / lowered from its place.... sounds very crazy.

aint they change allso the belt, and chain and waterpump, tensior all..?

advices please.

Before my recent freelander 2 purchase I researched various services from indies. I was also concerned at the 150k cambelt change especially on cars where you are not certain to how previous owners have operated them.
It seems in some opinions the belt should be changed around 100K.

The quote I had from LR Centre was £150 labour and £95 for kit (LR032527) + the usual

The price from Joe seems more likely closed to reality.

In no way the motor should be dropped. Just the front right wheel out together with the interior wheel arch plastic liner. For someone that knows what to do, no more than 3-4 hours of work.

Change the timing kit (rubber belt, guiding roller and belt tensioner) and the water pump. That's all.

thanks for advice, i have to talk whit local garage! STealer is stealing me out .... what about that chain? do it need to be replaced ever? what about should i be worried about this camshaft broke downs, 07year model

wow that was cheap ,who quoted that and where are they based? wifes on 140k so need to look into this soon

I asked my local Independent (LR Centre) based in Speke Liverpool, about a C service and replacement of cam belt.
They sent me a quote which I can not attach to this message but basically.

Timing Belt A kit £95.00
Labour £150.00
C Service charge £250.00
VAT £99.00
Which amounted to £594
