Diamond ring buying advice

Any hints/tips on the above? Want to get my wife a yellow gold solitaire diamond ring for Xmas as she's only been dropping hints for the last 30 odd years! Looking to get one around 1 carat. I know what cut of diamond she would like but don't want to take her to choose as she will hit the roof if she saw the price and be frightened to wear it. Is it better to buy the stone seperately and then have it mounted in a ring? I can easily get to Hatton Garden in London if they are better value up there compared to High Street jewellers or is that all a myth?

I always travel to the same jewelers, Caines in Wetherby, they made our wedding rings and recently made a diamond eternity ring, cant fault the service and spending the time looking at different stones and the markings within and having them explained is fascinating. To cap it off, at the end of the day you have a unique piece that will more than likely be better than any high street crap.
Find a jeweler that comes with a recommendation Thumbs Up

The standard jewelers mark up is 400% if you can get into any trade shows buy there, wholesale mark up is between 50 and 100%. other option is used /secondhand not worn, lot about, saves 20% at least my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

Bought my wife's eternity ring in Amsterdam... She chose it herself and was firmly of the opinion that what I spent bought a better piece than she'd have gotten in London. It came with a dealer guarantee that if she ever wanted to trade up they would buy it back for the price I paid too - happily she hasn't felt the need Surprised

Nice long weekend away too.

Just got back from Hatton Garden. Took my wife to pick one out as I'm useless and bloody good job I did too as she was telling me all along she wanted a Princess cut (square) diamond but when she tried it on it didn't suit so we eventually plumped for a brilliant cut (round) completely clear certificated stone of just over a carat. She didn't like the white gold mount that she tried on as it didn't go with her yellow gold wedding ring/engagement rings so they're making one in yellow gold and mounting the stone into that. Bit of a barney about the price but she calmed down when I explained it was nearly a grand cheaper and a better colour/clarity/cut diamond of the same size than in the high street jewellers. Picking it up next week but she ain't getting it (the ring Wink ) until Christmas!

Ad123456789... I have my title to defend, so must keep practising.
Like the true reversing specialist I am.
Ha.

Perhaps I should advertise in the for sale and wanted section for a boyfriend.
I was swapped for another model. Seems Eva and I are just no match for a Vanquish.
