Wipers winter park position

I am a little bit confused.

From my 2012th Freelander 2, the wipers winter park position by holding the wiper switch down while turning the engine of, moves the wipers in a vertical position on the windshield.

Now in my 2015th i can set the winter park position via the instrument panel menue, which moves the wipers just 1-2 inches above the normal park position.

While driving and having the winter park mode activated, the wipers go into the winter park position all the time after wiping the windshield.

So I have to set the winter park position every time manually when I am parking my vehicle. I thought they would go automatically into this position when i am turning the engine off.

Blinking heck, never knew that.

When I was out this morning, I tried this out on my MY11 model and wow, works here too.

Great feature for winter. Thumbs Up

Just wonder if that was a feature I missed over the 8 years on my D3 & D4 Confused FL2 now gone and have a couple of items left for sale:-

Brodit active iPhone holder + Brodit dash clip,
Bluetooth Music Streaming Module.

Our Golf is the same. I always understood it to be the parking position for the wiper blades when you are having the car valeted because, on the Golf anyway, the wipers come to rest below the bonnet line and you cant lift them to clean the screen. You had to have them in the upright position to change the blades too.

So is there a Winter Park position ( a little bit higher than normal) and somekind of a service park position?

I tried that too. They stayed at the vertical position! Interesting findings. Cheers! Freelander 2 XS MY 2012, 19" rims, Barolo Black. Privacy glass, spoiler.

Why would you want wiperswinter parked in vertical position. This means they will be powered immediately you switch on ignition. Blown fuse if frozen to screen!!! All FL2's (3) Gone

No.....because they're parked there - they don't move unless you turn them on. When they are used (on mine) after winter parking they then return to normal park position. 2011 SD4 HSE Auto

They will stay in vertical position even when you start your car. Unless you move the wiper lever.
Just like you changed their 'parking' position. Freelander 2 XS MY 2012, 19" rims, Barolo Black. Privacy glass, spoiler.

Shocked Little bit confused as to why you would want to winter park your wipers?

I thought that the older trucks 07 - 11 went into change wiper blade mode when you held down the wiper stalk on shut down? Freelander 57 plate XS Blue Auto

I've not had a winter yet with my FL & my car is garaged at night, but I thought the idea of the winter parking was to let the heated screen & or heater to melt the snow & ice before the wipers moved so that the blades weren't damaged. Do it now ! Your a long time dead !!

Normal wiper park position
