+1 on this. I have the "Radio Controlled" version which is the ultimate idle git's watch as it changes the calendar automatically and is set by the atomic clock to the right time - I don't have to do anything. Had a cheap Accurist which put up with everything from diving to skydiving. Never missed a beat. Had the battery replaced at a local jeweler and remained water tight (certainly to a few metres).

A tip for you, if I may. If it's gaining, when you take it off at night, lay it face up. Similarly, if its losing, do the opposite and lay it face down. They usually settle down after a couple of days, and whilst will never be as accurate as a Quartz, this method balances out the gravitational effects on the hairspring relatively easily. Foraging near Gaydon.... 覧覧覧覧覧覧覧 MY13 HSE Lux SD4, Baltic Blue - current, 30,000> miles without fault MY12 HSE 2.2 SD4, Sumatra Black - gone after 10 months/43,000 fault-free miles |

I agree to a point, but there is a difference between actually knowing what you're doing and having some particular piece of paper which allows you to do some particular thing. You can know what you're doing but not have the piece of paper. For example, my degree course included a year of electrical engineering - including circuit design, messing around with high-voltage, single-phase and 3-phase supplies, etc. That's way more than the average electrician will have done. And yet I'm not allowed to add a socket to my home because I don't have the right piece of paper! That's the trouble with this kind of bureaucracy - it can't distinguish between knowledge, ability and certification. Like Realspeed I find it very frustrating at times. I too did a 5 year apprenticeship as an electrician and day and night school in electrical /mechanical engineering, Yet because i have not kept up with the latest regulations and registered etc I too am not allowed to change a plug. The annoying thing is I later on worked for BT as a switchboard fitter with far more complicated wires/circuits than ever as an electrician Ex 2010 Freelander2 GS-e Diesel manual Silver owner |

I've worked in electrics and electronics, completed a 5 year apprenticeship that today money can't buy, I was taught to weld, turn, mill and fit in my first 18 months which I have kept up, this allows me to make my own water gauge, test gas integrity, wire a plug or socket, including rewire the whole house, with a bit of help from the internet I can find the latest standards, wiring codes, gas losses over any time period and and the latest specifications. I don't know the regulations on working to heights, but I do know if I fall off the wrong way over 2m it hurts and could be fatal. Common sense says self preservation comes first and your mate comes secondary, unless you're in charge and can't blame anyone else, recourse to law is not a great satisfaction if you're dead, to you or your family. Let Darwin rule and the world eventually becomes a better and safer place, the idiots with certificates will still die no matter what rules or laws are made or passed my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis
