I almost went for these, but the wet weather rating is really bad which is a shame, as I really like their summer tyres. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Alpine DVD - Privacy -Evoque 20" Dynamic Wheels and more to come.........

I and all my customers running them don't agree with these ratings. Andy.

I had a set on the Freelander, were great, ran them for three years, sold them to another member on here, bought another set for the Disco, can't fault them.

Someone on another thread has pointed out that the wet weather ratings are done at a "normal" temperature. Winter tyres are designed to operate best below 7 degrees. I am very happy with the performance of my Wintracs so far, but would like a bit of proper winter weather to try them out. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone

Unable to order a new DS, so gave up. Now have a Volvo S90 Recharge.

Have had a look round and the info on the Michelin site contradicts what I just wrote:
http://www.michelin.co.uk/tyres/learn-shar...yre-grades
Winter tyres tested between 2° and 20°C
Summer tyres tested between 5° and 35°C
Water depth between 0.5 and 1.5 mm
Braking performed on 4 tyres with ABS between 80 and 20 km/h (approx. between 50 and 12 mph)

How Michelin tests: we have chosen to perform tests under conditions that are as close as possible to true European, driving conditions. This means:

In an on-going bid to be as close as possible to the needs of its customers, Michelin will conduct all of its braking tests on wet roads at the most representative temperatures for typical European usage of its products.

Approximately 20°C for passenger car tyres
Approximately 7°C for passenger car and van winter tyres
Between 7°C and 25°C truck tyres (generally used in summer and winter conditions)
I haven't been able to find the test parameters for the Vredesteins. That said, there are plenty of comments on the web about how good they are in the wet! Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone

Depending on where you look it seems like Michelin do specify (Winter Rating) as part of their Wet Grip Grade for Winter Tyres.

http://www.blackcircles.com/michelin

Not all tests are specified on the label, so is a Winter Grip test part of the standard tests but we never see it, or is it something that Michelin have decided to do?

So some manufacturers may be specifying a Summer Rating for their winter tyres, some a Winter Rating and specifying it as such and some a Winter Rating but not specifying it as a Winter Rating so you don't know.

Don't you just love European offiicialdom.

After driving on the Nokians and speaking to friends who have gone from Vredstein to Nokians, the difference is night and day. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Alpine DVD - Privacy -Evoque 20" Dynamic Wheels and more to come.........
