According to the handbook, main dealers can re-programme the door mirrors from automatic to manual. Has anybody had this done? If so, how long/much to do, the car's not due a service for ages. Thanks. Series 2A 1961, 1975-78, made to last forever.

Because every time I go to the car for something I'm aware that I'm needlessly using the motors. Plus, most of the places I park I really don't need the mirrors folded.

Hi, you do still have manual controll by pressing the two left right buttons together. I manually close my mirrors after parking my Freelie close to the house wall, I then reverse away before manual opening them again.

Fred, thanks for that. Unfortunately I want the opposite to you, manually leaving them open/out.

I had this done for the same reasons of not wanting them to fold.
For some reason, it didn't work properly and they started having a mindof their own.....!
I had them reset back to folding  * GONE. GS TD4 Manual MY2013. Orkney Grey with privacy, cold and clearview packs, armrests (a must!) and a spoiler.

If your wanting yours out all the time press the buttons to close them, then manually pull them open

They will stay there till you press the buttons again

EDIT : I'd asked a question, but have now figured out the answer.

I want my mirrors to stay out for very similar reasons to Chris Bb, so when I first got the car a year ago I asked my specialist repairer to disconnect the auto setting with his Testbook.

But this only partially worked, and (like DrRpb) they would sometimes fold (about after every 6-8 lockings) and mostly not. Infuriating.

I invested in the Britpart Lynx 'fake-Testbook' in the hope that I could try to set them again... unfortunately it's very limited in what it will allow you to do (when compared to the 'official' Testbook), so I wasn't able to achieve anything.

BUT... since I picked it up yesterday from a 60K Main Service at (another) specialist repairer, they've stayed out. No idea why, and probably just a whim of its own!

I've been using the "fold in" option for some months now. My only complaint is that the mirrors do not "click" into position at their full extent. Apart from that, I'm happy not to needlessly be using the little motors every time I lock/unlock the car, especially now there's going to be ice about (even on the Costa del Solent). Series 2A 1961, 1975-78, made to last forever.

Same as you really living in Portsmouth its rare to have everything freeze but when it seems like its going to I have used the buttons to move the mirrors in knowing that the next day they wont auto unfold, and if needed have used some de icer to spray on them before unfolding ( I guess if its that cold then probs should winter park your wipers to at the same time )

Must admit I sometimes find closing the mirrors with the buttons help full if some spak parks across from me about a foot from the curb which makes the side road smaller and makes it a tight fit for lorrys and stupid people that cant drive. Always a bummer when unlocking and the mirrors open to then see a van or lorry coming down the road to which I normaly lock it again to fold them back in Freelander 57 plate XS Blue Auto
