New OSX out this autumn to tie in with iOS8 and it will utilise this new 'continuity' business. If you have an incomplete document or email on your mac, you can seamlessly transfer it to your iPad or iPhone that runs iOS8 and vice versa.

Just updated my MacBook Pro to this and pleased with it. The layout/look is now like the apps on the iPhone or iPad. It seems faster to me and more features on iTunes.

It did take a fair while and corrupted twice because the screensaver kicked in and interrupted it

did you opt for encrypted? not sure what it actually is, but that what is taking long time if you do |

No, I gave that a miss. Partly because I tried it once, last year or year before and it was crippling to the speed and partly because I didn't feel the need to use it. I only have Uni documents, not private business docs so I backup to dropbox on those.

can you set time machine to icloud backup instead of a local drive? or both

I don't think time machine can backup to iCloud due to lack of space. I had to pay extra (79p a month) for 20GB of storage after my holiday pics far exceeded the standard 5GB.
