Well I'm not! Saw it on telly the other night, the organiser said they were £25 plus P&P and the money goes towards armed forces charities so I thought I'd buy a couple. He said, "just google 'Tower poppies' which I did. It led me to a Daily Mail story that told of the MILLIONS the artist, private financiers and taxman will be making and the fact that just £8.75 will be going to the armed forces charities. After reading the comment by one greedy bastard financier from his home in the Alps, I'll be giving £50 for my poppy this year when the British Leigon start collecting outside Sansbury's.

The only discordant note to me is the number of poppies. Who decided how many and why? I think it should be one for every death but apparently it's around 300,000 short of that. Strange. Ours - 2008 Stornoway Grey HSE Auto
Tricia's - 2006 Royal Blue Beetle Cabriolet Auto
Mine - 2014 Vespa GTS 300 Super Sport Matt Black
Ours - 2007 White Bailey Pageant Champagne

i guess there is always going to be costs, the ceramic poppies don't make themselves and with free materials, likewise the money needs to come from somewhere to proceed to making them, before people start ordering them

The way I see it is, yes it looks like someone is earning out of but, £8.75 is still going to a very good cause, whereas, nothing would have gone to a very good cause if the project had not been set up.

Seems to be about cash for the government. They are taking £4.17 for each and every one of the 888,246 that died fighting for this country netting them over 3.7 million quid. VAT on death. Shame on them.

Why are UKGov netting £4.17 on each of them?
Is it not the case that the Treasury has in place a dispensation on the charitable revenues collected on Rememberance Poppies and that it hands back over the VAT revenues to the Charties Commission for distribution?
Or has this coalition Government reversed previous policy, or, am I misinformed?

No idea. Just going on what was reported in the paper. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-27...-rest.html
Perhaps I've got it wrong and a private company are selling the poppies and giving something to charity hence the government wanting their cut Question

not sure is if I'd believe the mails take on anything.

Its such a shame we cant just admire the idea and reflect on the sacrifices made. without it boiling down to tax and earnings

things cost, people have expenses, tax happens,

Not only the fallen CG - let's also remember the emotional pain and hardship that often accompanies that loss by those that are left at home grieving. The mothers, fathers, sons and daughters, wives or husbands. They need all the support they can get. And the receipts from the sale of poppies of any kind are most welcomed.

It must be true it's in the Daily Mail ??? I suppose it makes a change from their other two stock distorted headlines about house prices or immigration.

I was in London for the past 2 days with some old friends and we decided to trot over and see the poppies.
We can be a sceptical bunch but we found it impressive. ...
