You could claim the Tax back next week, but you still have a reciept to say you taxed it.

Any one wants to know other than the Police, which they can find out by ANPR can do so here

I'm just keeping it in my car just incase for example there is a computer glitch with the police for example. I know it doesn't happen often but there is no harm in keeping it in the glove box. My insurance is with an online company, so I've printed out a copy of the certificate, that's in the glove box too. Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.

Just taxed our Golf. Set up a monthly direct debit, that way I'll never have to worry about the tax again and it automatically cancels when you notify them of a change of ownership or SORN it. Will do the same to our FL and my motorcycles when they are due. Seems like a good system at the moment. Thumbs Up

According to the DVLA, you do not need to claim your tax back. It's automatically processed when they receive the sellers notification part of the log book.

The forms to claim tax back have been withdrawn.

People taxing vehicles from 24th Spetember until 1st October didn't get a regular tax disc, some got one printed on a paper letter they had to cut out - it was to run down stocks of the old licence, others got no tax disc at all. That came from the DVLA enquiry line.

Of which they charge you for.

Just another thought, I have booked mine in for a service, Dealer will collect it on the day, will he know that there is Tax on it, he will need to check every vehicle they drive unless they use Trade Plates all the time.

You can set up a direct debit for a payment once every 6 months. This for some reason is cheaper by about a fiver than buying 6 months tax up front. Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.

Just seen that, seems very odd, cheaper to pay six month by DD yet more if you pay by DD for 12 months Question

Just put my sons car back on the road after being sorned for over a year. Got it mot'd this afternoon, insured it around 5.30 (starting tomorrow at 00.01am) and then I taxed it online (starting tomorrow). I have the mot, insurance certificate and proof of taxing. Checking all online records it's not taxed, insured or mot'd! Should be fun for him when he starts using it from tomorrow morning. Rolling Eyes

There's another forum I go on, fella has just got a new BMW as a company car. He got stopped by the police. The police escorted the fella back to work (he was close by) to see all the relevent paper work. The police told the fella that usually the insurance and mot details are usually uploaded to the police system every Friday night so there is potential for you not to be on the system for upto 7 days. Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.

None of this is new, and pre-dates the tax disc changes by some considerable margin.

It has always been the case that if you tax a car (that is currently untaxed/on a sorn) and drive it the next day you are likely to ping up on ANPR.

The upload from DVLA to the PNC every Friday (or whatever day it is) has been that way for a good while, and it used to be even more infrequent.

The only difference now is that instead of a piece of paper in your windscreen that an officer can check, they will call into DVLA (or similar) for a real time check. If you've taxed your car then you'll be on your way.

In point of fact, even before the changes, if you ping up on ANPR for no tax then they would probably call for a real time check anyway - even if there was a "valid" tax disc on the windscreen.

As such, as mentioned before, it is (for all practical purposes) very little different to how it was pre 1st October.

I'm pretty sure that before it went paperless, you definately couldn't tax a car online if that vehicle was not showing up on the MID but this time it has allowed me to tax a car with no apparent insurance.
Edit: Just did another check. Insurance now showing, mot still showing but still marked up as on sorn. Oh well, two out of three ain't bad. Rolling Eyes
