have found that both my driver and passenger seat have a split in the side panels on the pleather.

just over 5 years old with 28000 miles, so out of warranty.

( both wife and myself are not overweight !! )

can anyone recommend a repair person in Scotland ?

you should be able to replace them via LR Parts dept, try dan at Duckworths

Mav71 swapped his bolster at the same time which seems a good idea

If its anything like my headrest, no retrimmers reply, so can't like small jobs etc

what parts do you mean npinks ? the whole seat base or the pleather bit that's split ?

its the whole lower seat cover, its one complete piece

is it quite easy to fit without special tools or skills ?

and do you need to remove the seat to do it ?

I have just swapped out my drivers seat base with a second hand passenger one. It did come with the complete base frame mind you! But the passenger and drivers side are the same except for the passenger has a load indicator built in.

The seat base comprises a steel tub, the foam cushion, a heater panel (if fitted) and the outer cover, leather usually. Removing and replacing isn't difficult by the way.

For your info, new leather base covering is approx £250 + VAT, the foam base is approx. £100 + VAT.

The way I did it meant all I had to do was unbolt and disconnect the old and refit - simples! An added bonus with this meant that as it was the passenger side, it hadn't had a lot of use so the foam cushion feels like new. 2010MY 2.2 e4 (gone but, not forgotten)

and would I have to remove the seats to fit ?

Taking the seat out makes it easier. Removal isn't difficult, disconnect the electric plugs under the seat, remove the four plastics at each end of the seat rail and star drive the big four bolt holding the rail to the chassis out. Then just be careful manoeuvreing the seat out in case you catch the door or other bits of car trim that are about.

Good morning Iain, you don't have to remove the whole seat. The drivers side base is fixed by 4 bolts, the passenger only 2.

Legoman, you beat me! You would also need to undo the seat belt from the seat if you elect to take the whole seat out. 2010MY 2.2 e4 (gone but, not forgotten)

I replaced the pleather side panel myself. Removed seat base as above, then removed cover from base/foam. Hand stitched new panel on with cover inside-out then folded back edges and replicated the saddle-stitch trim, picking up on original holes. Used heavy industrial thread and needles designed for upholstery/leather. A long job done over 3 nights, not sure if I want to do another one! A local trimmer had quoted £100 though not sure what the result would have been like compared to my lovingly hand stitched version!  10MY (Sept 09) TD4 HSE Auto in Stornoway Grey (Now Gone)

seems to be quite a big job, for me anyway,

I'll sit on it for the moment, excuse the pun, and give it a bit of thought.

must say though my wife is a bit disapointed and hinting now at changing the car, the fact that I have a 28 year old golf with no sign of this happening doesn't help !!

@philclemo. Does it mean the LHD have the drivers seat fixed with only 2 bolts, or is the base the seat cushion? Makes life even more complicated for me as expected when its the seat. Hi Dan,

I think the LHD drivers seat will probably have the 4 bolts. The difference is that there is a cradle which raises and lowers the base. If you look in my pics the passenger base only has plastic lugs which locate onto the frame. With regard to raising the frame I am not aware of anyone doing this, sorry. 2010MY 2.2 e4 (gone but, not forgotten)
