United Kingdom 2011 Freelander 2 SD4 GS Auto Santorini Black
My Freelander 2 Story

I'll try to keep this short, at the risk of boring everyone to death Laughing

I'd wanted a Land Rover for a number of years, but due to having to commute long distances I'd always gone for more economical options when it came to car ownership. However, due to re-marrying and relocating, the long commutes finally ended and I thought it was time to treat myself to a car I'd wanted for a long time.

Last October I bought a 2007 Freelander HSE and I couldn't have been happier. Everytime I walked back to the car I admired it and driving it was a real pleasure. It sounds a bit sad I know, but owning it really made me smile.

Anyway, in July my wife, mother-in-law and myself went on holiday to North Devon for a week and on the second day of our holiday I was driving between Woolacombe and Ilfracombe when we were hit head-on by a Ford Focus travelling on the wrong side of the road. I won't list all the injuries, but cracked ribs, cracked sternum, bruised lung, etc gives you an idea. I honestly believe that the Freelander saved us from more serious injury, although the people in the other car were more seriously injured than us.

To bring things more up-to-date, the police are looking to charge the other driver with Dangerous Driving and my Freelander was written off by my insurance company. The injuries we sustained are healing, although there're a few that still need to improve before we're back to normal.

To end my story on a happier note, my insurance company have paid me out and tomorrow I pick up a 2011 SD4 GS in Santorini Black, which I've bought from the insurance money plus some additional funds. My missus insisted we went for another Freelander, as she says she wouldn't feel safe in any other car. Every cloud.... Very Happy

Freelanders have that effect on people - and if your TD4 made you smile, the SD4 will make you beam from ear to ear!
After 3.5 years of ownership of my SD4, I still smile very time I step foot in it. So much so that I am thinking about splashing out on a new Metropolis. Just check there's no rust on the tailgate like many people have and if so get it patched up(under warranty) as soon as.
Enjoy!

Glad everyone survived and are on the road to recovery, nothing better to travel that road in than a Freelander. FL2 SD4 Metropolis Auto Santorini Black / ivory completely stock.

It's true that light travels faster than sound, some people look quite intelligent until you hear them speak.

Stop global winging.

Hope this works lol. Finally got a picture to upload. Very happy with the car so far and not missing the HSE extras too much.
I think I'm going to have to buy a boot protector soon, as I seem to be constantly taking garden waste to the tip at the moment.

I know it's not on the same scale but we hit a deer recently and sustained a few cracks in the front bumper (the deer wasn't so lucky) When I took the plastic bumper off I was amazed how strong the internal bumper was and how it had protected everything. We had a similar deer collision some years ago in a Freelander 1 and the damage was much more apparent (and expensive).

I agree that the front end is very well protected. Although the driver's side was pushed right under the car and the wheel went with it, the rest of the car looked untouched. When I compared it with the damage to the Focus that collided with us, we got off quite lightly.

As an update, the police have charged the other driver with driving without due care and attention. Apparently he's said that he's going to plead not guilty, which would mean me going all the way to Exeter for the trial. Sad

That's actually a great idea. I suggested a trailer to my wife but she looked less than impressed lol. Mind you, she's not the one cleaning mud and leaves out of the boot Rolling Eyes
