Nissanv Freelander update

Nissan xtrail v freelander comparison update

If LR had made a freelander with 7 seats I more than likely considered this as an alternative to the Nissan X-trail 2014 model.
Now I have the NIssan with lower road tax- better economy (ok it is only a 1.6)but 54 MPG( nissan quote) it really shows how far LR have slipped behind its competitors.

Not tried fuel economy in 4WD yet so can't comment onlt in 2WD

Forget all the gismos that it comes with. On a practical side how many times does one actually go far enough of road to warrant an out and out off roader? not that often is my bet.

So why a 4x4? you have to ask yourself. For me it is ride height- better grip in bad (icy/snow) weather and what it can tow weight wise price range (new).

The Nissan is slightly less powerful admittedly but with a smaller engine what can you expect but around the houses 48 MPG which is what I am getting after using nearly 3/4 of a tank full against 33/34 on my exchanged Freelander GS is some saving. One thing I am finding a bit awkward is getting used to the width as the front wheel arches protrude away from the top of the bonnet one can see , Yes there are differences for and against the Nissan does not have passenger one touch widow nor self folding door mirrors these have to be done via a switch inside. Seating is far more comfortable in the Nissan but this could be down to it being designed mainly for road use .

Size for size (as both are about the same) the Nissan scores heavily in the interior space competition, How they have gained it I have not worked out but definately more room width and length. Servicing every 18,000 miles or annually against the Freelander 12,000 miles as both are diesel surely LR could extend the service distance?
Insurance I can't comment on at the moment as my policy was carried over.

Driving the Nissan is different, less accelerator pressure for engine revs to be on par with each other, looking over the bonnet the Nissan seem wider but still takes same amount of room in the garage. This is weird to me.

Now the big Question you have been wondering about bearing in mind I loved the Freelander I hastened to say.

Which would I go out and buy again if I had the choice?

Very hard decision each has its for and against and depends on the reason for the purchase so I am doing it purely on personal choice. Considering my circumstances the tick box would go to Nissan with the Freelander a close second.

If I wanted the vehicle for other reasons then the Freelander would get the tick box against the Nissan , it is that close a choice.

FTR, the Freelander's service interval is 15,000 miles, not 12.

As for the fuel consumption, when you take into account the fact that the LR engine has 600cc more capacity, 20-60 bhp more power (depending on version), and a full 100Nm more torque the 48mpg you're apparently getting doesn't look that impressive at all! I'd say the LR 2.2 stacks up pretty well against that, and Ingenium will knock it into the proverbial cocked hat.

Do keep the reviews coming though, I do find them interesting.

It stacks well up on the 34 MPG i was getting around the houses with my freelander.
AS I said in my post it depends on what you want a car for. Where are the 7 seats in a freelander???? answer nowhere
Cheaper road tax as a bonus and 12000 mile sevice for the one below

My freelander I had

My new "baby" is firmly lock in my garage for the time being as I am off to Brazil tomorrow for a couple of weeks. That should cut down the fuel bill Ex 2010 Freelander2 GS-e Diesel manual Silver owner

Was it ever really 12? I have a maintenance check sheet dated 03/2008 and that says 15.

What's sad about it? They've got their own transport. The missus and I will meet them there, nice and relaxed going at our own pace with plenty of room to boot.

I have read your other posts, like the one on here "Where are the 7 seats in a freelander???? answer nowhere"
They will be here next year, but your comparing a model that has just appeared in the last few months against one that is eight years old and make out that it is so advanced compared to what you had, it may be better in some respects today, but at least compare on a level playing field Rolling Eyes
