You're not going to set them off by a pay and play day. The air bag system is triggered by multiple factors not always by a single item. For example there are the inertia sensors, roll sensors, impact sensors ... its a combination of readings from all them along with data about the cars speed, user demand etc that will decide whether to deploy or not.

I've seen frontal impacts where there are 2 front passengers but only 1 side deployed because only that side had enough crush damage to merit it.

As said above. If your in a position for it to deploy then your probably going to need it.

OP... Sound like you need to buy yourself a defender/series 1 of some sort rather than ruining your freelander.

No idea how hard you have to hit a FL2 to set off the airbags but ......

Been hit up the rear, fast lane of motorway, destroyed the Nissan that did the deed, no airbags deployed on mine, but crash was logged in ECU.
Been off road - rutted at 50mph, no air bags deployed. Very Happy
Dropped a couple of feet (launched!), and no airbags deployed. Shocked

In that case, I wouldn't want the the airbags disabled, because you are going to be hitting something very hard to get them to deploy. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
Replaced by Ewok what a mistake - now a happy Disco Sport owner
