Strange blowing wind noise on acceleration

Just started the other day - when I accelerate and reach about 2000rpm I get a loud (gets louder with more accelerator) window sort of noise.

When I open the bonnet and press the accelerator I can see a flap at the from of the engine bay (above a fan unit) open and the blowing sound is heard.

Any ideas if this could be a pipe off somewhere or something more serious!!!

It drives ok other than the noise - but I do think it's lost the turbo kick... 2002 Honda VFR800

I've just read an article on the web talking about split turbo hoses!

I'm stupid though so where under the bonnet do I look for the hoses?

Is this a self replacement job or do I need a garage to do it? I am pretty handy once I know where the bits go... 2002 Honda VFR800

its leading from the turbo, a snail shell looking thing next to the engine. pull the plastic engine cover off and get someone to rev the engine while you look and listen At work

Hi Simon, the turbo is coloured blue and mounted to the exhaust side of the engine in the pic and has four 'connection' pipes A/B/C and D. Check out B especially which is pipe (8,) from the output of the turbo (12) that goes to the 'cooler' (9) below the radiator, and also the pipe (10) from the cooler to the electronic throttle (6) on the inlet manifold Thumbs Up
Sorry for the clarity, screenshots don't come out that good once I reduce the filesize for uploading

Is this noise happening when the car is stationary as well as moving or just when you're driving?

Sounds turbo related to me. Mine makes an irritating sucking noise (like a really crap turbo dump crossed with a comedy skidding sound) when the gears change. Whereabouts unknown stop going to follow stream until reach civilisation stop message ends

Took it to a friendly local garage... Massive hose from the turbo split... Replaced with genuine LR part £120

No longer sounds like a hair dryer..... Thumbs Up 2002 Honda VFR800

Mine sounds fine while accelerating then I get a pst noise like it looses pressure but that's when I take my foot off the gas When I die, I want to go peacefully like my Grandfather did, in his sleep -- not screaming, like the passengers in his car

Since yesterday i'm having the same "hair dryer" effect as simont.
I'm glad it isn't the turbo itself.

Update: the intercooler hose was leaking. Got it replaced. No more "hair dryer" woosh sound.

I've had exactly the same problem. At 1500 rpm+ there was a sound like a shower being turned full on. The engine warning light eventually came on. In the weeks before this I had been thinking that power was down a bit - changing down for familiar hills etc. Anyway, found a 2cm split in the short fat hose that joins onto the turbo. Tried to order a new one to find that you have to buy the whole thing from LR. Just as well though, as there was a hidden split in the lower part too. The lower jubilee clip proved impossible to get to without a lift btw. Now feels like a a new car, or like it has... er... been turbocharged! If your hose has any oily smears on it, check it out - mine is an '08. Incidentally, there are lots of blue silicone sets online which are a fair bit cheaper than the £90 odd that I paid, I just didn't have time to investigate.
