Turbo operation in 2nd gear

Hi there,

I have a query about the way the turbo works specifically in 2nd gear.
I bought my car almost 2 years ago with 111000miles (180000km) on the clock. It is a 2.2lt diesel 2007 S TD4, manual.
shortly after buying the car I noticed that on occasion the turbo wont work in 2nd gear above 2800 rpm.
When the turbo wont "engage" and you lift your foot off the accelerator and depress the accelerator again the turbo then behaves normally.
The turbo then started to fail, so I wrote the above off as a malfunction.

After replacing the turbo I expected the turbo to function normally and smoothly through all the gears, but on occasion in 2nd the car wont accelerate.
It sometimes happens after changing out of first from standstill at a traffic light, and will sometimes happen when gearing down from 3rd and then accelerating to merge with traffic.

I cannot replicate the problem 100%. So my question is this a factory setting? Thanks

SMG

turbo operation is not related to gear selection, but engine rpm only.

Just some feedback to this.
In October 2014, my decided to die on me while travelling on the highway.
It took just over 2 months for them to get the car going again, initial triage was the high pressure pump was not working as the car was getting no fuel. After some work the problem turned out to be the ECU had blown. Once this was replaced the car still would not start apparently when the ECU blows it can take out the injectors.
After all this was replaced the turbo behaved flawlessly.
Clearly the ECU was the issue. Thanks
