You misunderstand --I was pulled because the DVLA database hadn't been updated. I was displaying the disc . |

That is exactly what I have done this morning, as well as the confirmation email that they have sent me. Its all together in the reminder envelope sitting in the glovebox should Plod decide to give me a tug. I'm sure they would say the saving is the current level of tax can be maintained and doesn't have to go up / go up so much.

IMHO the UK is becoming a rip-off as far as motoring is concerned but that is not why I moved to France. In France there is no road tax and diesel is currently the equivalent of 94p a litre so the idea that the UK needs to put more fuel duty on to replace road tax looks a bit iffy. The one thing we do have to pay for in France is the tolls for using the autoroutes, but by and large you only use them for long journeys and the RN routes are a half decent alternative. I only use the toll roads when coming to visit the UK. Maybe the UK ought to consider more toll roads to give the motorist the choice of how they spend their money - tin hat on! John

I'm believe the idea is when you sell a car the tax you paid stops as soon as you sell it and the new owner starts from that point. When other half bought new ( second hand ) car last month DVLA said system not quite there to achieve this yet but as of Oct it'll be done instantly online, V5 addresses too ......apparently ! |

Simple. It will not have any tax as it is not transferable after the 1st October. |

so by that if you get a car privately and get a time dated receipt and are caught by the plod as new owner and it shows as no tax on there system as change of ownership which invalidates the tax as you are the new owner or you have a crash one thing about insurance is your car must be legal to drive ,but you will have no tax on the car ,seems another well thought of idea from our not so clever government ,,gona be the same as passport office |

If the cars been signed over to you, as well as arranging the insurance before you can drive it away you will also have to arrange the tax.

It's quite simple, tax and insure it before you drive it away. It can be done online 24/7, there is no excuse really for not ensuring it is done. As for the passport debacle, they are now in their quieter period at the end of the holiday season, how many people will be renewing their passports that run out next May/June? Probably not many, they will leave it until the past minute and then blame someone else when it goes pear shaped. |
