I was one of those who had Bs when they came out until they stopped - my gsinwas fun.... How ever although I had an XP C it was a down grade and in eventually moved to Saab because it was the same car put together better.

Tech wise very good... Engine wise limited at launch and quite expensive.

Every OEM is the same... Cut backs but put the price up.

Conclusion as many of us are been done over on income and outgoings is the second hand market just started to look better.

That means more car for less and for me I may actually consider a ffrs for two years rather and a DS for four years.

Who knows.... I may change my mind

Ok, maybe many (or some?) do struggle with change. In relation to the Discovery Sport I certainly don't; I'm more than ready to see a new generation of vehicles to satisfy the existing and increasing LR market. My issue is that this launch (so far) may well be out of the price range of many former Freelander2 (& 1) owners.

Is LR deliberately focussing its entire new range on those customers who can and do chose to buy expensive high-end models, because the profit margin there is so much better? So, effectively abandoning a large section of its previously loyal customers to to be provided for by other manufacturers? Let's hope it's just a matter of launch timing, and that LR's strategy is not now wholly elitist. Life is not a dress rehearsal!

It's a strange article indeed, for me there is no comparison between the D4 and X5

Folks on here are worried about the 'style' change in the Freelander and frothing at the mouth claiming it's not a Land Rover, the real furore will be with the forthcoming D5, rumours are it will lose it's stepped roof and take on the lines of the new LR family.
In one mighty swipe LR risk losing a core of following who love the unique Disco style and produce a car that is a 'me too' large SUV. Unless, of course, they have something up their sleeve, that said, with sales not particularly healthy I suspect LR will be chasing the bigger market rather than trying to appease a minority of hard core followers.

I think people need to think about this 'new' business.

It's not new at all. It's a freelander in one of those stupid expensive designer dresses that Kim Kardashian wears.eye catching now, but in no way timeless. In 2 years your overpriced fashion accessory will have to be upgraded to another to keep up with 'fashion'. And underneath is a platform that started life in a mondeo 15 years ago

Where's all this clever tech that people keep talking about?? SD4 engine which is largely the same as the original 2.2 from 2006 with new mapping a new turbo introduced in 2010. There's a few. Touchscreens appeared inside and the stupid rotary auto gear selector complete with paddles... Hardly groundbreaking. And no aluminium to save weight.

The "What Car" guy says that later next year the 2 wheel drive variant will be available at £29,000 - I think LR will be loosing me as a customer when the time comes to change.

That's not quite what I'm after CG.

The bit I take offence to is they are ditching the Freelander name (which it resemble more than the Disco) and calling it Discovery, but nothing relates to the discovery apart from the LR badge.

I know a lot of designers at JLR, and also ex senior designers who were behind the D3, RRS, RR (the ex designers trained me at uni) and they all talked about brand identity.

The design is about right for now, glitzy sparkly disco ball style, but it in no way says Discovery. No assymmetrical tailgate, no roofline step, or bold profile.
