Whilst whashing my car yesterday I noticed a small patch of rust at the corner of the Chrome trim that runs along the tailgate just underneath the window. It's right in the corner and starts underneath the trim itself I think.
The car is just over 3 years old but I note there is a 6 year anti-perforation warranty - do you think this would be covered by this warranty?

Sure, here it is - its only small just now but we all know what happens with rust!
I am going to speak to Pentland on Tuesday about it but thought it would be good to have some ideas from you guys first.

That should be covered on the paint work warranty. Whilst polishing my freelander today i have found rust not on the boot but on the side of the rear wheel arch where the rear doors conceal.
This area seams to remain wet for quite a long time after washing. The rust is just starting to bubble up from below the paint in 3 small blisters. I also noticed that in the rear wheel arches where the black rubber protection trim is there is a strip of body painted surface that is exposed to quite a lot of stone chips this area should have been protected by a plastic trim or stone resistant paint.
One question am i correct in thinking the front wings are aluminum as the paint on the wheel arch lips are going a off colour.

I know freelander 1 had plastic front wings!

Everyone is quick to slag a FL1 off I've had mine since new for over 10 years and the paint is still like new! The newer LR's paint is very thin. I had to look at the tailgate latch of my 07 FL2 today and while there was a little paint missing there was no corrosion there. I did notice that the nuts holding the plastic trim containing the latch and reg plate lights were not as tight as I was expecting and it's surprising how a small vibration can wear away paint.
A lot of the corrosion resistance of modern vehicles is due to various versions of zinc coatings that are applied during manufacture. A pity the UK doesn't have a primary zinc producer any more!

I found some on mine last week... Under the wheel arch front passenger side.

Put a good dose of wax on it as a temp measure.... Plan to get some of that rust repair stuff I saw the other week.

Not worried as you really can't see it ...more about protecting and stopping.

Thanks for all the advice. Got the car back yesterday after 3 days in the dealership(Pentland) and they seem to have made a very good job of fixing the tailgate. Even valeted it inside and out.
Don't think I could ever go back to a manual Freelander though - the. Courtesy car was manual and I have to say I much prefer the Auto.
Quite fancy a Metropolis though....I wonder if there are any good deals to be had????

It's just that he has two legs and a manual has three pedals. Have to say though Freelander 2 and the Auto box do work well together.
